I gotta go track down those Idolatry videos. I could desperately use a good laugh.
Just piling on some more gratuitous Danny hate in advance. Why am I tempted to ask someone to photochop a poisonous snake crawling over the back of his airplane seat? |

It is really, really hard to watch Gokey's interview because he is stuttering all over the place like he has tourettes. Can you imagine if this guy had
WON? Kris is quiet, but thoughtful, and Adam is very talkative, but thoughtful, this guy has no idea what he thinks and is all over the place. He asked Slezak
what the theme was for country week (Grand Ole Opry). He said he had never heard of it. Now come on, isn't that something most people would have
heard of, even if they have been heavily involved in Christian music? That snippet of him

Okay, I'm probably going to get lit up for this, but I just watched all of those interview clips with Gokey and he doesn't come across half as bad as
you guys are making him out to be. I'm not a Gokey fan - I find his voice limited in style and substance - but I think you're all doing exactly what
he talks about during his clips: You're reading way too much into every little facial expression, gesture, etc.
You can't say he's riding on his dead wife's coattails and then give him crap for saying, "No. I wasn't thinking about my wife, I was thinking about a bum note in the song that pissed me off." That's what he should be doing if he's in a singing contest, not a dead-relative-pimping contest. You can't say that he's slamming Adam or Kris in the interview when he says, "You don't know Adam or Kris like I do...they're both great guys." (Whether or not that's true, I have my doubts...his face became too expressionless when he said, "I hadn't heard a word about the Christian/Liberal controversy." That's the face of someone trying to be deceitful.) You can't say that's he's stuttering and articulate when compared to Adam or Kris, because they're both so polished - Danny's not polished. I didn't find anything really objectionable about those clips, aside from the fact that he comes across as slightly disingenuous when he talks about how important youth and faith are - I think he's going to use those two issues to springboard him into the spotlight for as long as possible...if real fame and fortune came knocking on his door, I think they'd be out the window. Overall, I think he's trying too hard to play the game and comes across looking like a grasping amateur because Adam knows how to play the game so well (and so naturally), and Kris is smart by essentially playing the role of 'quiet, nice guy.' Again, I'm no Gokey fan, but you all are way too harsh. You're just looking for shit to skewer him for. |

I watched and I'm not reading into anything. No matter what he said, I still find him icky, simple, not well-spoken and above all...a singer who I really,
really, really don't enjoy.

Can anyone explain how Danny's making a Latin record is going to save all those poor ghetto kids from having to use basketball (racist little pig oink
oink) to get out of the ghetto and will bring families together? StarrEise, since you seemed to like to interview, maybe you can explain that part because it
came across both racist and retarded to me. What connections in Gokey's mind am I missing that connects Gokey's Latin record to saving ghetto kids from
basketball and saving families?

Also, the entire "Adam stole Allison away from me" bit irked me. Adam and Allison wanted to sing together. And Gokey is a pedophilic when it comes to
Allison. Adam is a hero for keeping Allison away from the pedophile who likes to grope her breasts and thighs. And then he disses his duet partner, Kris, in
the process. Sorry, he's still scum in my book.

StarrEise wrote:His pastor (Father Fatfuck) twittered 'vote for Kris, we need a believer to win.' And Danny said he didn't hear anything about the culture war. He's a lying sack of shit. He talks to that guy every day. Another thing that douchebag did during the interview: he compares his style to Kris because they both go to church, but their musical styles are worlds apart. Talent by association?

Actually, I didn't take his comments to be racist at all. Nor did I say I 'liked' the interview - I said I watched it and did not find it as
offensive as the Gokey-bashers seem to think it is. Again, I also think it's important to stress that I am not a Gokey fan; I much prefer Adam and Kris.
I did, however, try to watch the interview with some amount of objectivity.
It's a sad truth that many of the kids growing up in poverty look to basketball (or sports in general) as their only way out. Henry Louis Gates writes on this subject quite pointedly when he talks about the misconceptions among kids (and adults) who overestimate the number of African American basketball players as compared to African American doctors or lawyers. Kids in poverty are being thrown into school systems that reward athleticism over academic merit - that's why you see so many kids graduating from college who got a full ride on a sports scholarship, yet they cannot string words together into a coherent sentence. The truth of the matter is that kids in poverty have a much better chance of becoming a doctor or a lawyer if only they recognized that there were other ways out of the ghetto than sports. I understand what Gokey is saying when he says, "Kids look to basketball as the way out," because it's true. They do look to that as their way out. It's glamorous, it's cool...they all think they're going to be the next Kobe Bryant when, in fact, success on the court is rare for the majority of kids coming out of poverty. As for his comments regarding music, I can only assume that he offers that up as another alternative for these kids - though it's no less ridiculous than pinning their hopes and dreams on becoming a star basketball player. It's just not going to happen for the vast majority of them. It's a nice thought, but unrealistic. As I said earlier, I think that Gokey is using youth and faith as HIS platform for success; it strikes me as disingenuous because (as I said) if true fame and fortune came knocking on his door, he'd dump them in a minute. But I don't think it's fair (or accurate) to portray him as racist because he recognizes a problem and wants to do something (however misguided) to help that. |

He's everything Sheri said, and more. Lying, conniving, pimping, deceitful, conceited, malicious, homophobic,.... the list goes on and on. His interview
just reaffirms all of that. And, like you said yourself, his deadpan expression when he gets asked certain questions and his continuous "playing
dumb" responses, sorry ain't buying it. He is his own worst enemy because he is such a huge lying douche.
And, racist, homophobe... its all the same. |

I guess what StarrEise is saying is that Gokey isn't intentionally racist. Just like I guess it could be said he's not intentionally homophobic.
When I see/hear misguided comments about race and sexual orientation, I assume the person is racist and homophobic. Gokey does strike me as a LOT less bright and aware than before this interview. Maybe the fat tool believes he is offering kids, through his wonderful music, a way other than basketball, out of the ghetto. That sure sounds narcissistic but it could be genuinely hopeful. I also question how many Latinos use the NBA as a way out of the ghetto or how many disadvantaged African Americans listen to Latin music like Gokey's salvational album but my new impression is that Gokey isn't cunning and evil but rather dim. And he's still a homophobe but he's probably just a product of his culture and religion. But if he does indeed lurk here, you think he might grow some more self-perception from seeing how others view him. So let's keep trying to educate him: first, stop dressing in Kris's clothes; second, stop whinning about your luggage; third, stop touching Allison and 17 year old girls; fourth lay off with the homophobic comments. That's enough for him to absorb in one day. We'll start on the narcissism and gluttony tomorrow.

I wonder if he'll track down season 2 semi finalist Juanita Barber to help out with his foundation to save the children? Really, he should just go back to
his church after the Idol tour and stay there. The interview exposed how he's rather incredibly naive and disingenous at the same time.
