Dollhouse had horrible ratings (3.5 million viewers and 1.5 demo on average) but was renewed because it was profitable. Survivor is probably the most profitable show in cost/revenue CBS has and because CSI tanked this season, Survivor will be the 2nd most profitable show in general.
Dollhouse wasn't profitable at all. FOX just gave the show another chance plus they are reducing the budget into a "reality show budget" and reducing the cast members so hows that profitable if they downgrading the show
