A Man, A Tank, A Square - Tiananmen |

|
A favorite pastime of Americans is to openly criticize their government. For a number of years, half the population of the country seemed to do nothing but
criticize. Then they did more than criticize: they voted to replace that government, or at least the representatives running it, and did so freely, without
fear. Now the other half of the population openly criticizes its government. Usually this dance continues without much thought given to the very miracle that
they are allowed to criticize the government at all. Twenty years ago in another country, a great multitude of people tried to criticize their own government,
and hundreds of them were killed for their trouble. In that year, similar governments around the world were succumbing to their respective peoples. Twenty
years later, this one remains.
Happy anniversary to the "People's Republic." The Rathaus has nothing on you.

Yes, yes, yes, thanks for the post, couldn't be more timely. This day will forver in infamy. Even if China people forget, we will remember. Now, I've
said it before, I'll say it again, revolution by cell-phone. Twenty years ago those poor kids, if they wanted to call up reinforcements, they couldn't.
Now they could. A hundred thousand teenagers can overpower any army, just winess Moldova last week. So hang in there, future trouble-makers, before you know
it, communists, capitalists, brought down with the same blow, forward this message. . .

And they still love concrete way too much. The fuckers that were the reason World War Two started were the reason the Cold War ended. China in 2009? Same old, same old. No more Mao suits though, which is promising. |
