Yeah, Shipwrecked preceded American Survivor and it's a whole different show and concept.
However, I found a news story saying Shipwrecked is on the rocks, and probably won't film in 2009.

One explanation for the back to back occuring to me, is if you read the news story Volcanic Glass linked on page 17 of the Survivor 19 topic, it says the owners of this still undeveloped piece of land in Samoa bought it to build a resort, now to be named the Survivor Samoa Resort. They want to open in 2010. They have leased it through October. It's all in the news article VG posted.
Obviously they need Survivor to finish up in order to build the resort, so maybe don't want it sitting unused for three months as the normal schedule would require.
