Organized Grime: "TBH, I really don't see why Maryam not having a passport in episode 3 should prevent her from winning the competition, especially if she did have a photo to present at that particular elimination. She didn't get a pass like Fatima did on C10. It would just be bitterness on the part of the losers if they truly believed that in itself was a reason to eliminate her and they would completely be in denial of whatever else she obviously did right in order to win (good photos/performance, potential, etc.). Of course, if she doesn't get one later on and misses out on the second trip they make, then that will be a problem. " SORRY I DIDN'T QUOTE ORGANIZED GRIME ON THAT. I PUSHED THE WRONG BUTTON! I didn't mean it on a picture level. I am talking about a professional aspect. I have worked in the music industry.I would assume in modelling all that kind of stuff are the same. I don't think it is professional if you have known for weeks that you would need a passport and you don't have one ready. It shows to those incharge that you are either careless, lazy or you don't really care. I know accidents happen, sometimes the government takes its time & it doesn't arrive on time, etc. But maryam seemed fully surprised that she couldn't travel. How could she have not known that she didn't have a passport? Would the magic passport or travel fairy shown up? She wasn't born in Canada, so one would think she would be extra carefull about her passport being in place. She talks about being the only one who understands how serious it is, but forgets something that important? There may be more to the story, like maybe she hasn't been in Canada long enough to be able to travel (That happened to my best friend in high school who was from Honduras). But explain that so its understood. I also know from experience that life isn't always fair. But I can see the girls being peeved about it. I have seen people not fully play by the rules and still win competitions.

chapera rocks wrote:I think the 'best' photo concept is completely subjective. What really makes a photo better than another - we don't know what they use to judge the criteria for a good photo and we probably never will. Is it best overall compensition? Best capturing the 'theme'? Showing off the clothes the best? Best face? Best body shape? Since all of these ladies are pretty junior models, and it's still early in the competition, there is always going to be something in the picture you can improve upon - whether it's face, body, looking less like an amputee, etc. You learn from mistakes and (in theory) become a better model. Obviously they are looking for someone who will take more than jsut a good photo. They need someone with commerical appeal to appeal to the masses. Unless some of these girls make drastic improvements, they don't have a hope in hell of winning. Tiffany was booted because she showed no personality or passion. She was half asleep.... Jill had no hope of being high fashion...they dyed her hair and still could not do anything about the roots! Ebonie looked like a brick in her photo. On what basis should any of the above stayed?? |

It would seem as if she were in the process of getting one -- at least from her comments to her sister on the phone, Jay's comment, and that they let her on the show. Having only been in the country for two years and if she applied for one shortly before trying out (or being cast), I don't know if she was facing any hurdles in getting one and if it was taking longer than expected. She very well may have been lazy, I wouldn't really know either way. I do think that she should have had everything prepared beforehand, but what's done is done. She didn't look fully surprised to me. Just disappointed as the trip to the Bahamas was unexpected at this point in the competition and the reality of not having a passport set in when Jay said that he needed to talk to her. As for professionalism, even real (signed, working) models screw up in the travel document (or work visa) department because young people, when left to responsibly think ahead, often do not follow through. The girls can be pissed if they want, but it is not up to them who stays or goes and by what criteria. Especially since Maryam did have a similar photoshoot (while they bitched about the elements during their photoshoot, IMO not having the natural setting would be a distinct disadvantage if everyone else is shooting on a real beach with real water and sunlight) and didn't get a pass for just sitting around the apartment for 3 days. They would be more justified if she did get pass for not doing anything, but even then, it still wouldn't be their decision. |

Was the competition opened only to canadian citizens? If not, I'm assuming she isn't a citizen yet and therefore that would explain why she
would've had a hard time getting one. Still, I think going on the show without a passport is just playing with fire. There are always trips to foreign
locales, she should've known better.

Organized Grime wrote: There was no mention that she was in the process of getting them. Of course it is tv & they may have convieniently left that part on the cutting room floor. I am just talking from the perspective of someone who has done all the right things in the past and has had someone who didn't swoop in, that's all. Also as someone who has run competitions and auditions, that crap doesn't fly with me. If you don't t have the paperwork you don't get to participate plain and simple. Obviously TPTB don't subscribe to that. But if it were me & she failed to get the proper documentation, I would not be impressed as the one in charge. She probably wouldn't be a part of the competition. The other possiblilty is that TPTB told her they would get her paperwork done. Often opera companies will get all the paperwork pushed forward and processed for the person they want. But the passport would have been the responsability of the performer. It wasn't clear, That's all I'm saying, I actually like Maryam for the most part. I was just talking that's all. |

I have had two passports and been the guarantor for over 2 dozen friends/family....even in the past few months when Passport Canada expected a slow down in
processing applications due to the new rules governing travel to the US by ground it still only took on average 9 working days to have a passport processed and
in their hands. If you want a passport immediately you can pay a bit extra and they will rush the processing and have it back to you within 1-2 working days.
There was no reason for her not to have a passport, even after she found out that she had made it into the casting segment she should have had her passport
well in hand by this last episode.

Depending on how her family came to Canada (I don't know if the days of people being smuggled out of Iran are over), they may have had to leave everything, including personal verification documents, making it that much harder to get a passport. |

I don't know if they were always supposed to bring their passports on previous cycles, but they didn't need them... theoretically. I don't know, it really didn't bother me. She was still able to get a photo... let's see what happens. |

BWAHAHA I laughed out loud when they showed Ebony's pic. It really did look like she was trying to squeeze out a turd.

I was very happy that Maryam wasn't sent home; she's easily my favourite of the group with Rebeccah in a not-too-distant second. Heather and Meghan are
both good, but I find them to be incredibly dull. Linsay is starting to grow on me - she's totally fug, but has delivered three strong shots in a row. I
don't see her winning though, she's probably go top three before they decide to send her home. Nikunta just needs to get shut down and sent packing -
she's inconsistent at best when it comes to her photoshoots and just seems like a genuinely unlikeable person.

They showed a scene where Maryam was on the phone with her sister and she asked her sister if she found her passport. I don't think it was a case of not
having one, more a case of being sloppy about it. Don't care either way...just glad that hag Ebonie is gone, gone, gone!!!

I think Maryam probably had applied for a passport, but the turnaround time for passport from other ambassies or travel documents for refugees is extremely
longer than it is for regular passport. She was probably sloppy in the fact that she didn't expect it would take as long and thought she would have it in
time.

^ The preview looked hilarious.
As for this week, I can't complain about who went home. On top of holding up the KKKanada reality reputation, bitch sucked. Maryam killed it again, which was great to see. I also loved the almost-smirk on Meaghan's photo. I think we're looking at a F2 made up of two of Heather, Maryam and (ugh) Nikunta. Rebeccah and Meaghan seem to be on the verge of done. Was anyone else as surprised as I was when the editing didn't show Nikunta ripping into Rebeccah after telling the girls to act like it didn't happen? |

Was anyone else as surprised as I was when the editing didn't show Nikunta ripping into Rebeccah after telling the girls to act like it didn't happen? I quite frankly don't know what to make of the editing this cycle. They seem to gang up on a different person every week and not let go. Wasn't it just last week that everyone was hating on Nikita, and now she seemed like she was best friends with 75% of the girls? |
