This is what they should do. First of all don't put people that suck and make us want to stab our ears out into the top 24 to begin with.

Top 24 format:

week 1: 12 girls perform, 12 guys perform, 2 people from each group get voted though.
week 2: mix the groups up, 10 perform one night, the remaining 10 perform the next night. 4 more go through
week 3: mix the groups up again, 8 perform each night, the last 4 get through.

That way you have to be on top of your game to get voted through, but you get 3 chances. Think of the 2nd and 3rd rounds as Wildcard rounds. The worst gender split that can happen is 10:2. You can't get sick of all the contestants because the first 4 that get voted through you won't hear again until the finales, and the next 4 won't perform on the 3rd week either.

Taylor would've made it with either format and so would Kris.
