Entry-Level Jobs |
Lead | |
|
I have a friend who just graduated college with a degree in marketing. She's trying to figure out what to do with her life, and is finding that most jobs
require experience. Does anyone have any suggestions for entry-level jobs that she might look for?

She should have gotten a marketing internship while she was in college. If she's artistic she should go into a design job.

Is she a hot babe and can she do a few rudimentary dance moves? Then she should become an exotic dancer. She may not use her marketing degree much, but she
can earn enough money fairly quickly to pay off the student loans and her job will probably be more secure than if she goes into marketing.

Have look for a good head hunter (temp agency) to see if they can place her in a place that will take new grads. You'll be surprised at how many job those
places have.

She might want to apply for Grad School and use that as a backup in case she doesn't find a job, and then if she does end up going back to school she
should find the internship that she really should have found two years ago. I think that it will be important for graduating students in this shit economy to
make the right moves for their careers, rather than taking unrelated jobs. The chances are pretty high that she'll never use her degree if she takes the
wrong job now.

I'm hiring for entry level jobs in publishing (assistant) and frankly, with the competition out there right now, her best bet is to live at home and get
an unpaid internship so she has some kind of track record and can have a reference that's about how she is in the workplace doing marketing. Of course,
most of the applications I've gotten have at least one and often many internships. Some have years of experience. Also, the cover letter and resume are
about marketing herself. She should have a good editor go over it. 80% of them are hopeless, but the standards in marketing are higher and flashy.
ETA: unless they have a web system that screens applicants, she should apply to the jobs requiring experience unless she has nothing relevant at all. She might hit someone who pulls her application from the pile because of where she went to school and they want to give someone from there a break. But I think most jobs are gotten through networking.

If she has a degree in marketing and no experience, she'd best learn to suck the cock well.

A grad skool graduate with no experience is just as bad. I've gone thru a few and will never hire another.

She could always do what I did and become a nurse!
Although even with my sociology BA I had no trouble getting jobs |

Etxeverria wrote:How about none? As someone who got laid off and had to spend the past four months searching for a job with only two years out-of-college experience, it sucks major ass. Really, the only way that your friend will be able to find a job is to send out resumés en masse. When it says that employers are looking for people with 5+ years experience, usually they're willing to work with applicants, especially if they're desperate to hire for that position immediately. Otherwise, the only thing that they can do is just send out resumés and cover letters to everyone and anyone who is even considering an open position and just see what comes back. I've sent out around 80 resumés and have gotten maybe three hits back. Its the pits, but hey, its life. |

I have a friend (already you don't believe me) who resfuses to fill out job applications. He'll storm in, "Are you going to give me this fucking
job or not!!! Otherwise I won't waste my time filling in this horseshit!!!" (Need I say he's Jewish, unemployed, family name mentioned 20 times in
OT)

There is too much competition out there, that have outstanding people with experience that are willing to work for less. |

I know some people who got some entry level jobs with car rental companies, namely Enterprise. If I understand correctly, they're looking for college grads
and will train them. It's a shitty job though, but it's a paycheck and experience.
