Also, I don't know if you answered my earlier question: Do you do your fanfics where you pick a winner and then try to decide how to make them win, or do you go through a few rounds in planning and then see who would be a good winner after that?

Also, when you plan a season, do you work from the top down or from the bottom up?It varies every time. It might be one way one season and the opposite the next, but usually I would say the winner is picked before the first boot(s). For Gabon, for instance, I had G.C. slotted in as the winner before I had Kelly going first. She was kindof one of the leftover people at the end and I figured that if she lasted a few episodes in she would be pretty ignored so the best thing to do would be to give her a strong story in one episode. So it really is different every time but I have to say that I'm amazed how usually the pieces fall into place the way I want them to. The thing I wrote out for Tocantins is a good beginning point for what I do though. I usually figure out generally where I think everybody should fall and then I start to develop a story around that. And just to let you know, I am definitely doing the Top Strategists list but I haven't had any time to do anything fanfic-related (including the Reunion) since I posted the finale, so it will still be a while. But I haven't forgotten... |

Oops, missed that then.
We already know Eliza and Willard would've won your Vanuatu/Palau seasons. Looking back retroactively, who would you have made the winner of Borneo through Pearl Islands, and why? And who would've you have cast for All-Stars to win that season and why? |

Kitty Pryde1 wrote:It's very difficult for me to say who would have won all of those other seasons because I've seen them all and I know what really happened and I can't really put my mind back in that place of what I thought of the cast when I first saw it. I will try to give you some thoughts for each season, except for Borneo and Australia, which I truly have no idea who would win and I almost think Borneo should not be touched anyway. But I don't have winners for most of them. For Africa, which is a season I would have actually liked to write a fanfic for, I feel that Samburu would have probably dominated more than Boran still and the winner would have ended up as either Kim Powers or Silas. Forget the Mall-Rats alliance - Lindsey and Brandon would have probably both been booted early, although this is just me saying it right now. Before the show, I would have had no way of knowing Lindsey would be so annoying and she might have gone far. The Boran men would have likely been picked off circa the merge by a Samburu majority, after most of the Boran women were voted out premerge (and maybe Tom). For Marquesas, I could either see it going in two directions and I'm not sure which one I would have prefered. I could definitely see a Kathy, Paschal, Gabe, and Neleh Final Four, basically all the nice guys at the end but there'd be no drama in that. However, I do recall back to 2002 and those were four of the people I wanted at the end pre-Marquesas. The only problem is that was most of the F4 in the real show, but Gabe would be a better substitute for Vee, I think. The other thing would be the complete opposite of that and the Maraamu early boots would basically be the Final Four, which is what always does seem to happen in my stories. So we'd be looking at having Peter, Gina, Sarah, and Hunter all in the end game in this case with probably two of the gruffer Rotu members. It's hard for me to decide on this because Marquesas is one of my very favorite casts/seasons and I really think just about every character could be great here. I would have loved to have Sarah as a random UTRN/MORN winner but I don't know how it could logically happen. The winner here would depend on whether Kim P. or Silas won Africa. For Thailand, I wonder if I would have gone with Brian as a CPN strategist because I remember picking him out before the show and thinking he would win, and he turned out to be the most obvious winner up to that point. But I really do not know who I would have win Thailand. I can definitely say that characters like Ghandia and Robb would have lasted (for entertainment value), as would sweetheart Tanya and probably Jed since I didn't expect him to be an early boot back then. But this could be anyone's game in terms of a winner. Amazon? The men vs. women would definitely have been interesting to work with, but I find this cast to be one of the most unlikable ever, especially now that I've seen the season. My thoughts on some of them would have been different back in 2003, but I can definitely say that this is another season where many of the early boots would have lasted a lot longer. Matthew would have probably gone early, as would one of Butch/Roger. Probably Butch because he was less interesting. Once again, no one stands out to me as a winner that I would have picked. Sorry... Pearl Islands. This one is funny because Sandra, Jon, and Lill would have probably all been early boots if I were planning this back then, yet that would have been three of the best characters gone. Ryan S. would have still gone out early, as would one of Michelle/Darrah for being boring. Shawn would probably go out early too. I have no idea if there would be an Outcast twist or what would happen with that. The winner would probably depend on whether Drake or Morgan had control of the endgame. ??? So I can't really pick out who would have been All-Stars from these seasons because it's not as simple as me just picking a winner or big characters - I need to develop a story around it too. But if I were casting the real All-Stars season based on the actual Borneo to Pearl Islands, my choices would have been: Borneo: Richard, Susan, Rudy No Jenna Lewis, and Colleen is not included because she wouldn't do it. Australia: Tina, Colby, Jerri No Amber or Alicia. Elisabeth would not have done it again, and Rudy would definitely get the "old guy" spot. Africa: Ethan, Lex, (maybe Tom), (possibly Kelly G.) I would put either Tom or Clay on Chapera. I would be hesitant to have all 3 of Ethan, Lex, and Tom in the game together, and I think Clay had more strategic potential than Tom did, plus they're almost the same personality. Teresa would be a good choice too, but Tina was a much more notable player for winning and would get the spot for the "southern mom." While Kelly G. never stood out that much to me, I know a lot of people wanted her on the cast and I would have probably given Amber's spot to Kelly G. (or Neleh). The one thing Kelly would have going for her is her rivalry with Lex. Marquesas: Kathy, Rob M. or Sean, (possibly Neleh) I would have either one of Rob M. or Sean. Prior to All-Stars, I don't think I was as big on Rob M. as most people were and since he was 10th place and didn't make the jury, I might have chosen Sean. Plus I'd need an African-American since Alicia wouldn't be on it. If not Sean, I would probably go with Gervase. Neleh would be a maybe for Amber's spot. Thailand: Clay, (Shii Ann as back-up for Sandra) I would give Clay the edge here over Tom from Africa. Even though I would like to have Helen, Sue already covers that spot. Richard would get the spot that Brian would be going for. Amazon: Jenna M., Rob C., Heidi, probably Deena I didn't like Heidi that much during Amazon, but she was strategic, attractive, interesting, and controversial, and a much stronger personality than Jenna L. or Amber. I would have put her on Saboga in place of Jenna L. so that all of these three from Amazon were on separate tribes. Most likely, Alicia's spot would be given to Deena, but I'm not sure I would like to have four people from Amazon in the cast. Pearl Islands: Rupert, Sandra I would cast Sandra in place of Shii Ann. I know she had some medical conditions after Pearl Islands, but she WAS the alternate. If she definitely would not do it for whatever reason, then I'd have to stick with Shii Ann for Mogo Mogo. MOGO MOGO: Lex, Colby, Richard, Jenna M., Kathy, Sandra (back-up Shii Ann) OR Kelly G. (for rivalry with Lex) SABOGA: Tina, Jerri, Heidi, Ethan, Rupert, Rudy CHAPERA: Susan, Deena, Kelly G./Neleh, Rob M./Sean, Tom/Clay (definitely Clay if Kelly G.), Rob C. * Tribes might have to be shifted a bit since Chapera might be the weakest physically Considering everything, the FINAL All-Star cast would probably be: S1: Richard, Rudy, Susan S2: Tina, Colby, Jerri S3: Ethan, Lex, Kelly G. S4: Kathy, Sean S5: Clay S6: Jenna M., Rob C., Heidi, Deena S7: Sandra, Rupert Hope you enjoy reading those thoughts! Would that have been a good All-Stars group?? |

That's the thing, though. I can't say for sure who would have won those seasons because I don't know what I would have been thinking back then, so even though I say now that Kim P. or Silas would have probably won Africa, it may have been completely different back in 2001. That's why for some seasons, like Amazon or Pearl Islands, I don't know who would win. Who would you have predicted for the winners?? Glad that you would have preferred my All-Stars group to the real one. :) jgabler: Well I picked him on the day after the cast was released or the second day after, so that was way before I saw the type of edit he would get on the show. He actually had a very good attitude going into the game, so I don't think he was a bad choice based on what I knew. And based solely on my characterization of him, I think he was a fitting and deserving winner. YemaGrl1988: I hope G.C. winning took away some of your disappointment of Crystal not winning (which I do understand and I hope my response wasn't too harsh). Someday there will be another Stacy-type winner. I just have to wait for the right time/person to go with that kind of story again.I would have loved to have Sarah as a random UTRN/MORN winner but I don't know how it could logically happen.I would love an UTRN/MORN type winner. The closest you've had was Stacy and I loved her character. |

Because nobody seemed like an obvious winner, there was a lot of fun to be had with trying to guess who it was going to be. Didn't hurt that some of the challenges were damn cool, too. I actually plotted out an alternate Thailand season months ago, back when we were discussing the possibility of fanfics for past seasons. If memory serves correctly, I had a final three of Tanya, Ken, and Clay. Couldn't tell you who won it, though. |

Didn't hurt that some of the challenges were damn cool, too.I definitely think Thailand would have had some interesting characters to write for. I just think the way the tribes were divided on the real show, having no switch, and then the fake merge really screwed up what could have potentially been a good season. I don't think the cast itself was bad. |

I'm curious as to how you figure out these scores for each castaway. Could you tell me how you do it, because it sounds interesting.

Go to this thread and scroll down over halfway through the first post and you'll see the formula: http://survivorsucks.yuku.com/topic/1037?page=1. It takes into account a lot of things. Challenge wins are one thing, but also voting scores, number of votes against, points for finding hidden Immunity Idol, points deducted for various dumb things, etc. I suppose I should just state this on the first page since it is a pretty common question from people. |

Sorry for neglecting the Reunion... | ||

Sorry to everyone - I know there's just the Reunion left but I have a very important project to work on over the next three weeks or so, so I don't
think I'll be doing much work on this for a while.
It's likely that my next season won't start until December again - sorry about that. I hope this was just a bad (read: busy) year and I can do two fanfics again next year... |
