This is a bit of Smallville, Hercules (or maybe Young Hercules even) and Xena wrapped into a good campy show. I will watch again.

It's as good as BBCs Robin Hood, and I've watched every insipid episode of that. Like Merlin, you wish both shows were meatier -- and more faithful to the source material -- but they are bringing these classic stories to new viewers.

To my knowledge, Roman soldiers did not make it to that period. They must have left a couple of hundred years ago. Around 500 AD the Roman Empire had broken up in two, with one half remaining as the Roman Empire and the second half becoming the Byzantine Empire. Granted there may be some Roman influences during that time, but the British had pretty much taken over, politically, culturally, etc. Good episode though.
