Stephanie wants to break up with Phillip because she keeps having nightmares about him either being shot or more recently him having blood on his hands because of what he does in the shady Kiriakis business empire. Stephanie and Phillip have had a tumultuous last couple months with Phillip at war with the DiMeras and Stephanie caught in the middle. Phillip had a fight with Tony DiMera right before Tony died (though it was an accident) and the DiMeras blaming Phillip for the death led to them attempting to kill Phillip a couple times. Once was a hit put on Phillip the day of EJ's wedding to Nicole where Phillip was shot while he was in bed with Stephanie and the second time was when Phillip was in the hospital and some nurse tried to kill Phillip with a pillow (although I think EJ tried to tell the person not to go through with it).

Obviously, neither murder attempts were successful, and Phillip and Stephanie got engaged right after he got out of the hospital, but unbeknownst to Stephanie the feud was just about to ramp up even more when Victor retaliated by kidnapping Stefano and threatening to withhold his diabetes medication unless EJ signed over all the DiMera businesses to Victor. EJ instead employed some DiMera henchman that was secretly working for Stefano while working as a gardener at the Kiriakis compound, Owen, and ordered him to kidnap Stephanie so there could be a Stef-Steph swap arranged. Unfortunately for EJ (and Stephanie), Owen wound up being a psycho and tried to keep Stephanie for himself not agreeing to go along with the swap and she was being held hostage in a morgue (with her being stuck in a morgue drawer a lot) until Phillip rescued her. Stephanie was really traumatized by this and by learning of Owen's subsequent escape from jail, but she was never going to testify against him anyway because under pressure from Victor and Phillip she agreed to lie to the police about the DiMera involvement in her kidnapping under the terms of the truce between the two families.

Whew.

Who is Emily?

Some woman who died in her late 20s a couple years ago who has some connection to Rafe that has yet to be explained by the show. Possibly an ex-girlfriend.
