Her parent's didn't accept her, nor did anyone else, who blames her for finally getting to be who she is? She's not afraid of Bill or the rest of them because they need her and she knows it. The books may as well not even exist when it comes to understanding the characters. If you can't draw conclusions off of what you're seeing on the screen then the writers aren't doing their jobs. I think it's reasonable to think Sookie acts the way she does because she has Bill to protect her. And it's reasonable to think she does it because she realizes her value. I just don't think the books make either one correct or incorrect since this is clearly different.
