So in this movie, Harry will have people pass by him on the street giving him things that he will need later and telling him exactly what to do in a mysterious
voice?

Bill Nighy says he's been cast in DH and the assumption is that he's Scrimgeour (he'd be great). This is weird since Scrimgeour has a much bigger
role in HBP but isn't listed in the film's credits at all, whereas in DH he's in like one scene and is then killed off early on. Dunno who else he
could be, the only other role I can think of is Aberforth and that's apparently been filled already.
I've been trying to cram up on the books before the film comes out but I've been procrastinating and am only a few chapters into PoA. It's the first time I've reread them since DH came out and so I've obviously been looking for "oh so that's what that means" moments. One that popped up at me was in SS when Firenze saves Harry from Voldie and Bane gets all pissy, saying something to the effect of "hey, stop messing around with the Potter kid! You know what the stars say! Don't get involved!" That could be interpreted to mean "hey, what are you saving the Potter kid for? The stars say he's going to die. Why are you interfering?" |

He could be Xenophillius Lovegood. Or has that been cast already?

Rhys Ifans is Xeno. If you've seen him in anything you'll know he's yet another casting bullseye.

Word is that this movie is done more like a romantic comedy.
PLEASE don't let this be true... |

What I am shocked about is that the movie has a PG rating, when the last 2 were PG13. The cave scene is one of the most intense and scariest scenes in the
book, with the inferi. Throw in the death of a certain character, and I would have thought it would easily be PG13. So hopefully they did the book justice...

That would be the biggest travesty in the history of mankind, and that's not hyperbole. This is the Empire Strikes Back of the series; the many killings in
DH notwithstanding, HBP is by far the darkest book. The trailer indicates the romantic angle has definitely been played up, but I'm hoping that's just
the trailer and that it's only a subplot. The posters don't exactly show Harry and Ginny locked in an embrace. Draco should be the major subplot and
the trailer does show him looking not very well at all.

First review! Mr. Potter, Meet Mr. Oscar?
Hey, the Lord of the Rings movies were nominated three years running, and I rank this right up there with those incredible films. Now I know people are going to give me crap about this, but please hold your judgment until you see the film yourself and then come back and point your stubby little Hobbit fingers at me if you don't agree. Lest you think this movie was preaching to the converted or that I am some sort of huge Potter aficionado, I will be honest and say that heretofore, I was not a huge fan of the franchise; certainly I understood the popularity of the books and the films, but they just were not my cup of tea. Well, stand back because now the Potter-loving beast in me has been unleashed after having witnessed a film that was not only exquisite in its production values, but was also charming, funny, scary, enchanting, moving (stop me, the adjectives could go on and on) and dare I say, sexy. Brilliantly directed by David Yates (he directed 2007's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a tour-de-force that combines style and substance, special effects and heart and most importantly great performances from all of the actors young and not-so-young. Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter himself, has evolved into a really fine young actor who gives the film its emotional core. However, if Radcliffe is the heart, Michael Gambon is the film's soul as Albus Dumbledore; Gambon gives a powerfully subtle performance as the de-facto father figure to young Mr. Potter. Of course, the always great Alan Rickman gives another menacingly creepy and memorable turn as the evil and duplicitous Severus Snape. The cinematography, music, set design and costumes are all amazing, and the film has a truly rich look to it reminiscent of the best of the old-school Hollywood epics. There are two more Potter films (both directed by Yates) with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows - Part 1 set for 2010 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows - Part 2 set for 2011. I, for one, cannot wait to see what wicked adventures this way come for Mr. Harry Potter. |

Paris Hilton wrote:Some of the most crucial parts of the book (the beginning with the Gaunt family, for instance, and the part where Tom Riddle/Voldemort comes back to Hogwarts asking to be the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher) have been confirmed as being cut. Instead, scenes like the Burrow being attacked are thrown in, which was never in the book. While I'm disappointed they cut those parts out, as they add tremendously to the story, its not as big a deal as cutting something from Deathly Hallows. Cutting almost any part out of that book would have been a travesty and would have been a disservice to the series, even if half of that book was "Harry and Hermione take a stroll through the woods for a few months". I personally don't think that this is the darkest book of the series, nor is it the Empire Strikes Back of the series (Deathly Hallows holds that coveted honor for me). In fact, I found HBP to be the filler book between Phoenix and Deathly Hallows that simply sets up the events for DH. Before this book, horcruxes were never mentioned. Don't get me wrong, its still a strong book, but I personally wouldn't put it above DH or POA in terms of story. Some of my favorite scenes from the book, though, such as Malfoy and Harry fighting each other in the bathroom, Katie touching the necklace (and everyone realizing that the children are being targeted), and Malfoy's stupidity/realizations at what he's done are among my most favorite scenes in the entire series. |
