12. Misty and Sally

Let's see, Nick and Austin were sitting in a perfect middle position on La Mina. They have two groups fighting to work with them and one outside. It makes every sense to stay in the middle by taking out the weakest tribemate in Ruth Marie. Wait, this is Nick and Austin we're talking about, right? The two guys who wanted to suck Terry off? Damnit. I know I've already harped about how stupid of a move that was in their entry, but it needs to be said again. Fuck you, Nick and Austin.

Anyways, coming into the game, Misty was a hot chick on the young female tribe...who also happened to be a rocket scientist. One of the best combinations we've ever had on the show. Easy early favorite. She comes into the game, and her tribe loses the first challenge. With the new theme of Exile Island, they had to abandon one of their own. Misty lost two rock, paper, scissor matches to send her alone. With the clues unsufficient to find the idol, Misty decided to ensure that she'd stay in the game. She rejoined her tribe and was asked by Probst something along the lines of, "How much time did you spend looking for the idol?" She replied, "Enough." This made me fall in love with her even more. It didn't mean anything because the younger girls won the first immunity challenge, thus they were allowed to sing together in peace with no risk of going home.

While I was enamored by Misty after the first episode, Sally didn't really step into the picture until after the tribal swap. After being together on Bayoneta originally, the two were obviously going to stick together. Sally and Misty needed two more people to gain majority, and they had their eyes set on Austin and Nick. They did everything they could to get them on their side including Misty's massages, but it wasn't enough. The boys ended up making a moronic decision and robbing us of more Misty. Yes, they voted out Misty over not only Ruth Marie, but Sally, too, even after she lost the spear. I know Terry was afraid of her but come on. Supposedly, she was voted out because even if she really did have the idol, Ruth Marie would have left over any of the boys' club. That's reason #532 to hate the idol right there. Actually, it's more like #1, but you get what I mean.

Misty was ridiculously robbed, but at least Sally was still in the game. When La Mina lost their next challenge, it was obvious to every single viewer what would happen. Sally, outcasted from the previous tribal council, would be booted unanimously. Luckily, the boys (except Dan) managed to make an even dumber decision than they did when Misty left. Sally was spared, and our likable underdog superstar was on our screen for at least one more week. They finally won another immunity challenge, but the tribe's luck ran out at the final 11. Sally must not have had the same luck as the rest of the tribe, though, because a new twist allowed Casaya to send her to Exile Island instead of tribal council. She was spared once again, and I was ecstatic.

Unfortunately, Sally's luck ran out with the La Mina Pagonging, and Casaya wouldn't accept her into any alliances because they had enough people on their side. Still, this pair was great, and I really wish they could have made it further together. Sally by herself was great to watch, and Misty was even better when she was in the game.











11. Mike, Elisabeth, Rodger, Jeff, Alicia, Nick

I liked both tribes in Australia, but Kucha >>>>>>>>>>>> Ogakor by a long shot. I know Ogakor had more strategy going on on the surface, but Kucha was more entertaining, more likable, and they weren't strategic duds either. Had they came out on top at the merge, I'm sure the end game would have been more exciting.

The Kucha alliance had two factions. They had the Christian Coalation in Mike, Rodger, and Elisabeth on one side, and they had Alicia and Varner on the other with Nick setting himself up perfectly as a middle man who could play both sides. Debb left easily in their first tribal council for trying to build a shelter out of rocks, but it was not without Rodger setting himself up for later by getting Debb to stack a vote on Varner. This was the age of my favorite twist of all time, an age where past votes were the tiebreaker. Kucha won the next three challenges, and when they did lose, Kimmi was easily sent out the door. Though not without Rodger getting the boot to stack another vote against Jeff. We all know what happened with the fire incident the very next episode which is likely the reason to Kucha's downfall. Had Mike not fallen in the fire, Kucha could have either won the immunity challenge, or they could have booted Varner to get rid of his threat of past votes that Ogakor knew about due to Kimmi's big mouth at a reward challenge in the second episode. Instead, Jeff was sadly kicked out in a tie vote because of Ogakor's brilliant planning to act like Colby had votes against.

Anyways, that was just what was happening strategically, but most of Australia's entertainment didn't just come from boring gamebots talking about their next victim. Speaking of the second reward challenge, it was a challenge where they had to jump off a cliff, but there was one problem. Rodger didn't know how to swim. Eventually, he was able to overcome his fear and jump. While they didn't win the challenge, it was a great moment to say the least. This was the same episode where Mike annoited himself the leader when Kimmi's back was turned as he let the tribe know in a public prayer to God before the tribe ate. In episode three, Mike started scaring some people as he let everyone know that he was going to kill a pig. This made Varner almost go crazy with the bashing, and it was hysterical. Then, Mike actually caught and killed one, shutting everyone up. They knew he wanted to, but everyone just thought he was too much of a moron to pull it off. Later, Nick managed to get Alicia to break character by telling a joke about the chicken he was eating. Speaking of chickens, Kimmi was a vegetarian. Instead of hiding it to fit in like Ethan did in Africa, she let everyone know her morals of not eating meat. This didn't make her feel too good when they won chickens to eat (one that was named after a chicken she kept as a pet), and, of course, Mike's killing of a pig. In one of the most famous scenes in the show's history, Alicia and Kimmi argued about when to eat the next chicken. Alicia was "tired of her and the fucking chickens", and she let her know. She also let her know that she will always wag her finger in Kimmi's face.

All 6 of these castaways were likable. I mean didn't fall in love with the Rodger and Elisabeth coupling like most people did, but I enjoyed them well enough. Mike was literally insane, and he was hilarious in every single second he was on screen. Surprisingly, I liked Nick Brown more than Rodger and Elisabeth. He was funny in a subtle way, and he seemed like a good all around guy. I have no clue why everyone calls him invisible especially to some of the people we're comparing him to from later seasons. Varner was always good for a snarky comment, and his one sided fued with Skupin was great in every form imaginable. Then, we have Alicia, easily my favorite castaway from the season. I guess Mad Dog and Skupin both come close, but they were not like Alicia at all. It pains me when I hear some BS about how she was undeserving of her spot on All Stars. Yeah, she sucked there, but she was amazing her first time around.
