The fight at the end of HBP isn't really a battle as much as it's just an invasion. No one really fights against them except Harry and Hagrid, at least
at first. When Harry's running after the death eaters towards the front gate, that's really the only time it's a "battle," as that's
when the teachers come out chasing everyone off the grounds, if I remember correctly. It never even approaches the scale of the multi-chapter Battle of
Hogwarts that happens in DH.

Oh, damn. I'm starting to get my hopes up that this might be a good movie, but then I hear what's been cut and I think I'm just going to be
disappointed.
It's going to be weird seeing this film already knowing how the 7-book story ends. |

Just enjoy the movie for what is it. Books are books and movies are movies. Some things just would not translate well.
The funeral has been cut because it's not an apt ending; Harry himself does NOT pay attention to it. They created a more touching tribute after his death. Don't fret, all the dialog from the funeral is still there. And Fawkes still sings. The Gaunts have been cut because Harry is merely an observer. Not only does it distract from the flow of the story, it is also boring considering you have 4 minor characters bickering about some irrelevant thing. You can't make an audience care for these random characters within 2 minutes. HOWEVER, the important memories have been kept. The Horcruxes have been explained in a more concise but equally effective way. |

I would hardly call Marvolo's Ring irrelevant, or the fact of Tom's parentage (which helps explain why he goes bad in the first place).
Also, have you seen the movie? How would you know those details? |

I thought DH had too much padding in the middle. To me, it would've made more sense to split HBP into two movies.

Don't fret, all the dialog from the funeral is still there. And Fawkes still sings. I agree. The book needs a darker, cliffhanger ending. You want the end of the movie to be the death, not the death along with everyone else having some time to process it. Having the funeral (at least in this movie) would take away from that...show flashbacks in the next movie maybe. |

Early reviews: "...The romantic diversions are skillfully worked into the mystery of what Draco Malfoy is up to and what secret Prof Horace Slughorn -
played perfectly by Jim Broadbent - is keeping. Most importantly, Half-Blood produces what none of its predecessors have -
t.ears. The death of Sirius Black in 2007's Order Of The Phoenix was an emotionless affair. The demise of a beloved character here is told with
heart and power. This is a full-blooded affair. Rather than giving us a series of computer-generated action sequences (yawn again), Yates has gone for careful character development, building to a dramatic crescendo. And that is the biggest surprise of all - The
Half-Blood Prince is masterful. There was no stamping of feet from The Sneak because the film differs from the book - the only sound from his limbs at the end
was rapturous applause."
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/film/movie_reviews/2516815/Excluse-review-of-Harry-Potter-And-The-Half-Blood-Prince.html My friend and producer Laura went to the media screening for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince yesterday in Toronto and many of you wrote in the afternoon wondering about her reaction.

I'm probably not allowed to say this but the new Harry Potter film is excellent - this coming from a Potter non-believer. http://twitter.com/Rollissimo/I'm under embargo on the new Harry Potter. Bruno Delbonnel is an incredible cinematographer. http://twitter.com/brendonconnelly/ About to head out to Half Blood Prince screening. Have opted to not wear a Gryffindor shirt. Don't want to be *that* person. (about 4 hours ago from web) At Half Blood Prince screening. Peter Jackson has lost SO MUCH weight. (about 3 hours ago from mobile web) They're taking away cell phones. Tweet you later. On way home from screening. THERE ARE NO WORDS. http://twitter.com/KStew411/ I absolutely loved Half-Blood Prince, potentially as my new favorite HP movie, but it's too early to tell (it needs time to soak in). http://www.firstshowing.n...car-nomination-material/ |

Are these fan early review types (I think other motives were only had sneak reviews to those that were fans)
Just know that the theatre full of jaded, crusty journalists all laughed and gasped and oohed and ahhhed at the right spots. Just know that the chemistry, the romantic chemistry, between the kids is HOT, just know that Lavender Brown is a scene stealer, like Bellatrix Lestrange, just know that it is worth the wait. It's the worth the wait for 11 more days. She better be. I'm still irked at how they always recast the Hogwarts supporting cast and just think we're not supposed to notice and/or just think they are different kids. Since I started watching the movies before the books, I was under the impression that Lavender Brown was this fierce black woman:
Only to watch the trailer for this movie and see she's been recast as Hermoine lookalike: |

I totally forgot Lavender Brown is supposed to be black. How racist is that??!
Remember that Random chubby black kid from POA? He was a stene stealer, everytime I saw him I just cracked up and thought who the HELL is that? |
