All Abby needed was one line like "They played Ave Maria at my mom's funeral" to explain why she got those freaky phone calls. Or Henry to say "I smashed Trish's mom's plates because I wanted to scare her." The smallest bit of acknowledgement would have done wonders. - I don't get it. Is Henry IN love with Abby, or does he love her so much to only want to be with her and nobody in the world? Pretty weak. I posted up that excuse "I killed everyone because I wanted you all to myself" a few pages back, but like all my other wild outcomes, I didn't mean it seriously. - Just because Henry is Wakefield's child does not automatically mean he's gonna be a killer. If that's the case, better exterminate all serial killer's spawn before the 'We told you so's. That was just a weak excuse. I would rather he just say stupid stuff like he had voices in his head. THAT would be better. - Was it ever established who put the deer head in Trish's tub, or the raccoon in the church? Both of which Henry discovered and tried sweeping under the rug? Seems kinda dumb if Henry did that on his own only to avoid their discovery. - I'm not going into the money thing again. The bad taste is still in my mouth. - Madison and Shea surviving - As per horror movie rules, Abby and Jimmy had to survive. Why? because they never had sex. As far as we know, they're still virgins. So this whole unconsummated longing and blah blah blah... bored maybe my thoughts will change once I see the episodes (can't wait to see the Trish murder) but I doubt it. whatever...

I mean, come on, just about everybody here said they were expecting it to be a terrible ending, a disappointment, etc... and now you all were saying it was even worse than you expected. Not only that, but a majority of you said the killer would be Henry and now you all seem pissed that it actually was. I personally wasn't expecting anything going into it and I wasn't disappointed at all. It seems like some of you were going into this thinking the finale was going to be some spectacular event full of mind blowing twists.... really? Honestly, what kind of spectacular outcome could they possibly come up with that wouldn't disappoint you guys? I thought the finale was right in line with the rest of the series. Not great, not boring, not terrible. Kinda enjoyable. Something to watch. I haven't seen episode 12 yet, but I actually did enjoy episode 13. Sure, it got a little slow in the middle there, but I kind of liked Henry's overacting. I actually like Henry more in the last episode as a psycho killer than throughout the whole series as the charming groom. I think a good amount of people who are watching this as it was meant to be (mindless gory fluff) will also enjoy the ending because even though many people thought it was going to be Henry, the WHY was not really figured out and, for me, it did make an interesting story. I took Henry's love for Abby to be a purely brotherly love, since he's always had that brother/sister connection to her and she was always there for him growing up. Henry was clearly psycho, taking her childhood wish of them being able to be together (meaning play together, nothing sexual or lustful there) forever as a serious goal of his. His finding out they were truly related pretty much sealed the deal, as their connection was truly the one real thing he has had in his life (though his connection to Trish is also debatable). I can buy his motive, as stupid as it may seem, as somewhat believable. And I really don't need to know how Cousin Ben or Beth were killed (why is this so important?), why that Ave Maria music was playing, why the dead animals were left (prob Shane/JD), or who broke the china (prob Madison). There were plenty (actually, tons) of other clues pointing to Henry as the killer, none of which came from a tweet. I also don't need to know how Henry expected to subsist on Harper's Island undetected for the rest of his life (seriously, how does he expect to buy toilet paper? And did the cops not search every single house there?). I expect these kinds of questions to exist or linger, and I really don't think we would be better off if they explained any of it. Besides, even if they did explain it, you guys would probably be like "well that was stupid and pointless" anyway.

And I agree that the ending was right in line with the rest of the series. It is also in line with the original vision of the shows creators in the show's promo. They created a slasher film of mindless gory fluff. Fine. That is how it was meant to be enjoyed and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I enjoyed it on that level. However, That's NOT what was sold to us by the advertisers. If I were a CBS executive network executive I'd be pissed off not only because the ratings weren't good but also because it damaged the credibility of the network to have a show on the air that wasn't what was advertised. I expect one thing from a "mystery" and another from a mindless slasher film. People who wanted a "mystery" and put in 13 weeks waiting for one have justification for being peeved at the end, even if they enjoyed the slasher film aspects of it. In the future, I'm going to stick with "Masterpiece Mystery" on PBS in the future. The BBC does actual mysteries better than anyone else and that's television that doesn't suck. :) And CBS should go back to creating the great mystery series that they have always made.

Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Spoiler [+] I'm just pissed that Henry let ppl that loved his ass like a brother no less die (Danny and Sully) Malcolm and Booth are afterthoughts... Sully has always been incredibly selfish and the one moment I want him to be selfish he doesn't... Why didn't he go with Shea and Madison? Because he loved Henry to much... That was a hero thing to do, Sully definitely became a man through this expierence. So sad he died. Danny is another hero, he saved Madison and Shea and decided to take on Wakefield as a man... I really wanted him to live, he did nothing wrong to deserve to die, a brutal death no less. (Cries) I just can't wait to see these guys and girls in upcoming projects. Harpers can be the beginning of a wonderful career for these guys... I really hope so. Henry killing his hot fiancee for ABNER??? is a huge WTF moment. She should have chose Hunter if that's the case... I'm going to be an emotional wreck on Saturday... we lose Cal and Chloe and then we continue with Danny, Trish and Sully.. That's 5 of my faves dying one after another.. OUCH! It would have been nice to see the 4 survivors reunite, after going through alot together..

I've avoided this thread since yesterday b/c I don't watch the online Canookian links and I like to wait until Sat. nights to watch. So my STOOPID coworker calls me in my office and says "I was just looking around the spoilers on Harper's Globe (which she wouldn't even know about if I hadn't told her) and they say that _____ is the killer. Do you think that's true?" I'm all "Of course it's true, it showed last night in Canada you maroon!" (which I've explained to her before, but apparently the concept is too much for her to grasp) GAAAAHHHHHHHH. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Amused not. Spoiled against my will. Worst TV day of my life. Phillip eliminated, That intolerable small penis head Jesse back on BB instead of the delish Brian, and NOW THIS. Fuck my life.

And I agree with you, things do not need to be explainedm and there are plot conventions when you're in a certain genre. But it really needed to be more clever. Casablanca has huge logistic practical problems, but none ever question it simply because of the writing and execution.

As I said before i'm still gonna buy the DVD because I love Horror and I enjoyed the first 11 or so episodes of this show..however that was most definately the worst possible ending for the worst possible reasons.

Do we find out where Wakefield has been living the past few years (is he an islander)? And what's the ferry boat captain's name again? P.S. If you want to see what I hope will be a good movie based on a really good mystery novel, see Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island." Better yet, read the book written by Dennis Lehane.
