Suppose the new Samoa cast had people who not only were bad players, they were against the concept of alliances period. Suppose they were like Gretchen or Greg
in outlook and only voted based on their conscious decision not to be ruthless or to actively try to fuck with the crew, would you enjoy it?

Yes, yes I would
The reason for that is because for the last 16 seasons, its really all been all different in what happens, yet exactly the same, with alliances, twists and INV players. To see another season of Survivor where we get to know the players more and have less strategy, it would feel like a breath of fresh air. Im not saying Im against great gameplay and alliances, I'd just like to see something different for a change. And then have Heroes vs. Villains in the winter :p

I'd watch it just because it is Survivor, but to better answer your question, yes I would enjoy it. It would be a nice change from what we now know as the
norm. My biggest arguement in favor of this is that we'd lose the HII and EI, which would be so amazing.
The only thing I wouldn't want is Probst's pre-shot naration scenes where he explains treemail every episode (etc)..but obviously that wouldn't be necessary. |

Chupacabra, I assume you wouldn't want a Borneo style season because you think there would be a dearth of strategy. There wouldn't, the way people play the game would just be different. The people wouldn't make alliances, but they would have to make careful observations about social behavior and weighing the challenge liability/ social liability ratio pre merge more more carefully. |

Dr Will Hatch two point oh wrote:This is a complete pipe dream. The Borneo cast had nothing to go by other than perhaps watching foreign versions (which Richard Hatch apparently did). Nowadays lprospective contestants are given DVDs of previous seasons to watch in preparation. Even if casting decided not to do that, the entire cast would have to be recruited and would not be allowed to watch any of the previous seasons. The supposed new Samoa cast could not have any true fans of the show or anyone who may have watched even some of the episodes. I watched the first UK Survivor (which used the same beaches that Survivor Borneo did) after Survivor China aired. It was okay till it hit the merger. Starting with the merger, there were a string of predictable boring pagonging episodes till the Final 6 when it played out exactly like Survivor Guatemala. The mastermind of the first Survivor UK season (also named Richard) failed to win the Fallen Comrades challenge and finished in third place. So I had watched a back to basics season after 15 seasons of US Survivor shenanigans and I admit to having found it to be somewhat boring. |

the game has evolved too much since Borneo I really doubt that Richard would win with his gameplay at best he would be a pre merge boot he played the game with
lambs now of days wolves play the game

Borneo is my favorite season largely in part due to the naive gameplay, but it would never work again. And I'm not just saying that as some nostalgic
"It wouldn't have the same magic as Borneo" sort of thing, but the show has changed and so have viewers. The idea of a season like Borneo sounds
good on paper (although that would depend entirely on the cast, and let's face it, I don't think anyone has enough faith in the casting department
nowadays to cast a group on par with Rich, Rudy, Sue, Colleen, etc.--and even if the casting department could, we'd be too cynical and write off half of
them before the season even started) but I think viewers would be too irritated seeing people not make obvious moves after 18+ seasons to enjoy it.
Besides, we literally just had two seasons of people who had greater goals than to win the game for themselves, with Sugar making "strategic" decisions on a whim based on who she liked at any given moment, and then you had half the Tocantins cast actively playing for JT to win. Maybe it's not exactly the same thing you're referring to, but this style of play after so many seasons is more frustrating than entertaining to watch. |

jerzeeshore wrote: That's a wild assumption, especially considering that he was almost betrayed by Sue and Kelly, later betrayed by rogue Kelly, and almost lost to Rudy, who had a very valid strategy of playing a loyalist game. Beatles20147 wrote: Well, I'm not saying that they should cast "naive" people, I'm saying that there are alternate ways of playing the game besides alliance building/jury management and manipulation. Kind of like the poster I just responded to above, he thinks the game is static. The whole reason I bitch and moan about the HII, perhaps more than anyone else, is because the HII forces people to make alliances to either support or reject the idol holding majority. If we had a cast of people like the Pagong tribe, all of whom knew about alliances but ultimately rejected them, would be fascinating TV. It won't happen, because of the HII What Sugar did, and what the cast of Tocantins did, was different from what I am saying. First of all, and I know I'm beating a dead horse, the HII taints the show. Second, the Gabon and Tocantins cast didn't give up the idea of alliance building. The last team to be what I'm imagining of is Ulong I guess. Casaya was VERY chaotic, but that's more of a result of their personalities than game play philosophies. |

Not really. A Borneo style contestent would outright reject the HII.

In a heartbeat. No switches, no exile island, no hidden immunity idol, no more twists where the game becomes pure luck, and no challenges that can lead to
people being evacuated.
