Also, I'm not surprised Aladdin didn't make the list (it's repetitive). Nevertheless it's a fun game (esp if you love the movie) and I defo got my rental's worth that weekend <3 |

#5: Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition
OMG memories! This may come as a surprise to some people, since I have made it clear that fighting games are not my favorite genre. However, this was the very first fighting game I ever owned or played, so it holds a special place in my heart. Anyone who has played Street Fighter, or really any fighting game in general should be familiar with the concept. I won't even explain it. I don't remember how many characters are in this game, but I do recall there being a pretty big variety. A few that stand out in my memory - Ryu, Ken, Dhalsim, Blanca, M. Bison, Chun Li, E. Honda, Vega, Balrog, and Zangief. I know there are probably more. This is pretty much just a basic fighting game, and there aren't many extras. I do recall going through with each character to see their endings. And of course, there is a 2 player mode. I can't even begin to put a number on how many hours I spent on this title. That isn't even including the upgrade which came out a year or so after this game that included new chracters and stage. Overall this game is a great throwback to when fighting games used to be interesting, and not just about who can rack up the biggest, most devastating combo. Having to memorize all those different moves and button combinations is why I don't like fighting games anymore. |

#4 Ecco The Dolphin
A video game based on the life of dolphin... For those of you who have never played a game in the series before, it probably sounds pretty lame. But I gave the series a shot and started playing the first game back in the 90's when I was in grade school. And much to my surprise, I loved it. Basically this game is a 2D side scrolling game through various creative levels, where you have to do battle with underwater enemies and solve many mysterious puzzles. The first game starts out peacefully enough. As Ecco, you are swimming around the your lagoon, enjoying a lazy day. This is simply to give you an idea of the controls and introduce you to the basics of that game. When Ecco launches himself out of the water and into the air, a mysterious cyclone swoops down and sucks all the life out of the bay, except for you. Thus begins your journey. The game takes you all over the ocean in search of your missing family. When you finally discover the sunken city of Atlantis, the game takes a drastic turn into the realm of sci-fi. You find out that the disappearance of your family is linked to the appearance of an alien race that feeds by sucking all life from the ocean. Traveling back and forth through time, you battle this alien species until you are finally able to board the mothership and free your family. It probably sounds pretty weird, bu the game is fantastic. The graphics are great, the sound effects are perfect, and the overall atmosphere of the title is very absorbing. The puzzles and action sequences are very creative too. If you are frustrated easily, you may not like this game, as it is very difficult. If you are a fan of classic games, this one stands out as one of the best the Genesis had to offer. |

See I like the way Street Figher used to be. When I would play, it would be a back and forth strategical battle where both fighters would kind of peck at one
another until one ran out of health. Now it is just whoever gets the hugest, unavoidable button mashing combo wins.
Anyway, the anticlimactic #3 is coming soon. |

#3: Ecco 2: The Tides of Time
Ok, this is soooo anticlimactic. Especially considering that Ecco 1 was the last game on the list and no one really cared So this game picks up where the first left off. I don't remember too many of the fine details about the story, but I do know that this one is even more "out there" when it comes to outrageous science fiction stuff like aliens and time traveling and all that. The graphics have been kicked up a notch, and a few 3D bonus stages have been thrown into the mix. The story and atmosphere really make this game work. The first Ecco game was awesome..... this game is simply gripping. The levels are huge and challenging. Unlike the first game, this one conveys a little bit more of a sense of direction as to where you are and what you are supposed to do. I think the fact that they introduce the sci fi elements from the very beginning helps this game out pace wise. I remember barely putting this game down from the second I got it to the moment I beat it. The sense of mystery and wonder is hard to put into words. You just have to play it to know what I am talking about. There is just something magical and special about this game that I will never forget. One of the most underrated classics out there. |
