So it's pretty much misplaced nitpicking when people complain about 30-40 something actors playing charecters in their 20's in Westerns when someone in their 20's during the Old West would look aged beyond their years.

And a little off, the reason life expectancy's were so low was because the death rate for children was so high, infant mortality rates screw up averages. It should have been Angelica Houston & Sam Elliott. DiCaprio was great in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". Anything else he's been in is all kinds of wrong. The 1st casting comment said earlier makes me wonder how Travolta feels about turning down "American Gigolo", "An Officer & a Gentleman" & "Chicago"...all of which went to Richard Gere.
