Were transcripts important? How so and in what way?
What about if you just got a GED? What did colleges ask for then?

How important were your high school experiences to getting into college?

Sounds like someone is a) dropping out of HS, or b) thinking about it. Fail.

High school "experiences" mean absolutely nothing in postsecondary. It would be most beneficial if one could just erase all that useless dreck from one's memory. |

I don't understand any of these questions.

Highschool performance can determine what kind of grants and scholarships you can scoop up in college. School's always better when someone else is paying
for it, dontcha know...
And, uhhh... if you sucked in highschool, I doubt you'll do well in college. |

I knew someone who didnt get her diploma but got her GED instead and was accepted. Later in her first semester made a 4.0 GPA...

Oh, and grades will determine whether you get into a highly regarded university, or spend your life trolling around in junior college.

I started my Senior year in high school 40 years ago this week. I have no memory of what high school was like. Now college... that's another matter.

does a good sat score really matter more than marks in high school? what counts as a 'good' sat score? I don't live in the states and am curious.

HB, I think SAT scores are kinda like regular highschool grades in that the higher your score, the more options you will have when choosing a college.
I could be wrong. |

That's about right blockhose. I'm not sure what a good score on the 2400 system is, but on the traditional 1600, they want you to at least crack 1000
to match a good GPA. If you're in the 1350+ range you can probably get into any public school not matter what your grades were.

I got a 3.85 in high school and a 5 in AP Literature, but I still go to a community college.

Achieving a certain SAT score and recieving certain grades throughout my high school career was rewarded with a nice scholarship that I didn't even have to apply for when I went to college. 3. No idea. yw. |

This is why you went to Penn State and not UPenn. |

I wish I had an ivy league degree so I could get a job as a bartender.

high school means absolutely nothing in college admissions. you already have the admission letter in your hand before the senior year is even done.

ok I know someone who wanted to go to a school in the states and wrote the sats and got 2310 (which I think is good). she didn't end up going, but could
she really have gone to like, some ivy league school with that score even if her marks were like mid-80s?

Depends. If she was competing against other students with similar or higher scores that were born in the U.S., then probably not. A lot of schools are denying
foreign-born students (unless they are really spectacular) because of the hassle of student visas and the fact that many schools nowadays don't give
financial aid to foreign students. Even with that high of a score, the acceptance rate at the Ivies is still less than 11%.

Me and some of my friends applied to Harvard just for the rejection letter. It was $60 or something, but it was worth it. We got them framed...I want to put
mine in my office one day.
