Coaching and mentoring are not the same thing.
A coach is someone who transfers knowledge, assesses behaviours and offers opportunities for you to use the new knowledge in a way that will benefit your performance and ultimately the organization, be it on the job or as part of a team etc. A mentor is someone who supports personal life improvements, career advancement, has no power over your position or career and does not benefit in any way from the choices you make. You can fire a mentor. Sounds more like you have a coach though if they're attempting to 'get the best out of you'. |
