Here's the story: Visiting a friend at my alma mater, IUP in Indiana, PA, and went to the bar. Driving back to his place(literally down the street which I've done hundreds of times when I went to college there) and get pulled over and arrested for DUI. The cop did a breathalizer and then asked me to step out of the vehicle and did a Field Sobriety Test. I thought I did well, but I dunno. He arrested me and took me to the hospital to take blood. From there, we went to the police station for finger printing and mugshots. He made some kind of mention to the fact that "I'm lucky" but I didn't know what he was referring to...lucky I didn't hurt someone? Lucky my BAC isn't as high as it could've been? I don't know.
I called my cousin, who is a state trooper, and he said he'd make a call and see what is up but that he can't really help me out. I have been told that if my BAC was below a certain amount, I may be eligible for an ARD Program for first time offenders which would mean I would have to take a class and have my license suspended for either 30 or 60 days.
HERE'S MY DILEMMA: I work with Special Needs Children about 45 minutes away from home. If my license gets suspended, I cannot possibly transport these kids to the activities and things they need to do. I'm wondering if there's anyway I can take like 2 days in jail instead of license suspension? Or maybe I can get a work release stating that I am able to drive to and from work? I don't know.
I'm still waiting for the charges in the mail and have no clue how long it will take to get them. Anyone know anything about this?
