Katy Carney wrote:Hmmm that's very interesting. I always felt like a lot of the men on the show were made into heroes while women were villified for sometimes the same type of move or gameplay. I don't know WHY it is, but for some reason America loves the men. Ever since they've been doing $100,000 to fan favorite at the reunion, a male has won. S15-James, S16-James, S17-Bob, S18-JT -- Is this because of their edits or because America really loves them more? I'm not sure of the answer to that, but it's all fun to ponder. |

EOrlins wrote:I have no proof of that but my original thoughts is a social explanation that i can relate to when i watch survivor with my friends. Usually, men tend to root for men, and women seem also to root for men. I've always wonder why like you Eliza the 100, 000 dollar winner was always a man. And during the first all stars, the top 4 vote getters for the million were 4 men. And also, Here in Montreal Canada, they're are some reality shows in which the public votes and the men win most of the time because of that. I think that generally in life women are often envious and jalous towards one an other (particularly in their work) (not all of them, i don't want to generalize) and are competitive and don't wish for their female "competition" to succeed, when it's direct competition to them in real life (in various aspects of life) and that theory is reflected when they watch unknows compete (i think) . I Think they often root for the men because they don't feel in competition and their rooting is more genuine. And for the men, yes there is competition between them but i think it's more upfront and like "in your face" attitude but at the same time respect and a certain admiration for their competition. But when they watch a show like Survivor in which they are not involved, they identified more to the men, like a solidarity thing, like "they wish to play like that" so they root for what they identiyfy too. And i don't want to sound mysoginistic because i'm not, i think the women have lots of social and human qualities that man have far less, but i think that in this case, "the not very sane way the women often envy each other or feel threatened by for different reasons (beauty among others) could be an explanation to this. I'm not saying i'm right, but i just analyse what i see around me in life and i think it's the same theory. (sorry french is my first language so i hope i didnt sound like a women hater, i love women, they have great qualities that i don't have personally, i'm just pounding on the subject like Eliza.) |

The edit actually makes me hate these guys (especially JT) even more. If they're getting votes because of the edit it's just sad.

I'm rooting for Michele and failing that, Kevin actually. Natalie can go home 2 weeks ago, thanks, lol. But yeah, the question of whether men seem to be
the favourites because of their edits or if the viewing public really just favours the men, is something I don't know, though it's interesting to think
about.

Is this because of their edits or because America really loves them more? I'm not sure of the answer to that, but it's all fun to ponder. One of the things I like about Survivor (besides the T N A) is that it's a GREAT social experiment. It breaks things down to basics and what you find is that men are mostly hunter gatherers, and leaders(Testosterone) and women are nurturing, care giving, communicators(Estrogen). We want a male to lead and a women to follow. Niether roll is complete with out the other and both have equal value, but it is unnatural for women to take the winning leadership spot. We are choosing a tribal leader and winner. Its basic stuff. The male is the physically stronger(confirmed with physics of muscle anatomy) and hence the leader. I'm not saying its right...But this is the way it is and has always been. You can't have 2 leadership rolls. We want the strong to survive!

Eliza,
Does CBS generate a bio for each contestant from your interviews, callbacks and LA finals or do they interview you before the show starts? |

The Samoa cast has 4 lawyers, definitely a record for Survivor. Attorney power!

Hi Guys,
I just tweeted about the new cast (twitter.com/eorlins), but I complied my tweets so you can see my thoughts! Twitter analysis of new cast: Contestant 1 - Ashley Trainer - I know her! She's a sweetheart, but I'm not sure if this little MN girl will get eaten alive on #Survivor. Contestant 2 - Ben - Doesn't like crybabies, but thinks he's a country boy (ala JT?). May not fare well as well as JT did on #Survivor. Contestant 3 - Betsy - True fan of #Survivor, been trying to get on for 6 years. Love her already. Seems like she could have what it takes - like Amy from Guatemala. Contestant 4 - Brett - Motto = "I only look sweet & innocent" - SO not that original. Cute & a flirt. Ladies will like him on #Survivor Contestant 5 - Dave - Believes in astrology. Ugh. Although like his spirit - lived in his van to avoid work he hated. Interesting. #Survivor Contestant 6 - Liz - Lawyer&NYC Girl! Excited to see what she does.Hope she's not Becky 2.0 but she claims to have a sharp tongue. #Survivor Contestant 7 - Erik - Womanizer, smart, articulate. Could be BIG trouble in the game of #Survivor. I like him a lot! He's engaging. Go Erik! Contestant 8 - Jaison - Another lawyer! YAY! Smart guy. Think he could end up being boring & play a UTR game, but I hope he's not! #Survivor Contestant 9 - John - 1st impression: arrogant, spoiled, pretty boy. Not a huge fan although he is cute. "Too pretty for radio" ew #Survivor Contestant 10 - Kelly - Gorgeous, captivating, & cute. I'm a big fan. Could do really well on #Survivor - she's like a blonde Parvati! Contestant 11 - Laura - She does nothing for me. Bored already. Hope she surprises me. Barely made it through her video. ::Yawn:: #Survivor Contestant 12 - Marisa - LOVE HER! She is SO interesting! She is someone I'd want as my friend, but may be an early target on #Survivor. Contestant 13 - Mick - Dr Mick Dreamy. Like him. Good looking, smart, & could be a huge threat on #Survivor, can't see him not making merge. Contestant 14 - Mike - Glad he's getting a chance to be on #Survivor after being pulled last season. Doubt he'll go far b/c of his age. Contestant 15 - Monica - Very pretty, smart, and another lawyer! Love that she played Pocahontas. She's cute and I'm a fan. #Survivor Contestant 16 -Natalie - Hellllooooo Barbie. She could definitely be underestimated on #Survivor b/c of the southern accent and her looks. Contestant 17 - Russell H - MY PRESEASON FAVORITE! Can't wait to see how the biggest villain plays! High expectations for him on #Survivor Contestant 18 - Russell S - 4th lawyer in the cast. Love that. Seems like a very nice guy, which doesn't always behoove you on #Survivor. Contestant 19 - Shannon - What a character! Can't help but like her! Hope she does well on #Survivor but may not fit in w/ the young cast. Contestant 20 - Yasmin - Not sure if she'll fare well on #Survivor. Would LOVE to see her sassy side come out; I hope she brings it. #Survivor Samoa looks good and I'm excited for it to start! Preseason faves: Russell H, Kelly, Shannon, Mick, & of course @asheetrain Oh and I like Erik and Betsy, too! I think this is a great cast! |
