Japantown? Peruse the bookstores, THE WEAPONS SHOP, oh and have some sushi maybe. The new Bloomingdale's downtown is fun but crowded. Haight&Ashbury duh if you're into that scene. Don't be afraid to take the bus lol.

If you're going to SF, you need to check out the residential districts. I suggest checking out the touristy areas: the wharf, cliff house, whathaveyou but
don't spend any money there if you can help it. Go to the Avenues and fill your belly with CHEAP EATS. Dim sum everywhere, try to get there early to get
the good stuff and don't worry about not knowing what anything's called since you can just point at whatever. It's not like the people serving you
expect you to know what everything's called.

Isn't Folsom a prison? Did nomiii get busted?
SF seems like a wasteland -- lots of bums, garbage and car break-ins. Aside from a few buildings and cable cars, does it really have any attractions (like Seattle's music experience, Rock N Roll museum, aquarium)? Go north to Muir Woods, Mt. Tam, or so south to Santa Cruz-Monterey. |

Can you change it around?
Several days in San Fran is fine, but unless you really like gambling, four days in Vegas is a bit too much. Four days in LA is also a bit weird. Unless you're planning on cruising the West Hollywood clubs or heading to the La Brea tar pits, it'll be a disappointment. I'd suggest taking the extra couple of days and heading down to San Diego and possibly taking in a donkey show in Tijuana. |

First off, do anything that Anne says. She knows what's good and what's not, although the part about going to AT&T Park is probably not possible
as there is about a 5% chance the Giants are even playing that far into the post-season, much less if you're able (and willing) to pay for the tickets.
Although it is a very nice stadium. I'd recommend going to Piazza Pellegrini or Vicoletto for food, but I'm partial to Italian food in general.
I love the Marina. Eating there, walking around, the clubs and bars, looking at the expensive houses, its all good. But yeah, the crowd probably isn't your type. You'd probably be better served in the Castro, North Beach, or Haight-Ashbury. (Oh, and btw, I have a friend who goes to UCSF, PT, who invites me to go bar hopping some weekends with her, so I park my car as close as I can, which is about six blocks, to her apartment in the Bayview on some weekend nights). The Full House "houses" are actually called the Painted Ladies. I don't know how one can go to Alamo Square and not see them, since they're right on the side of the park. They're almost exactly the same as they were in the opening credits of the show. The actual house that was used for the façade during the interstitials in the show (the one where the family lived), is actually a few streets down, but it looks nothing like it did on the show now -- the door's painted black, there's bright red trim on it, and the two houses on either side of it looked condemned. If you're coming in mid-October, you'll have missed all the festivals. SF fairs unofficially end the first weekend of October with Love Fest and Castro Street Fair. However, if you're going the second weekend, you'll be coming right in the middle of Fleet Week, so there's that. Zzunk wrote:It is a wasteland -- if you live anywhere else in the Bay Area but the city. Bums? Check. Garbage? Check. Car break-ins? Twice, once while I was actually in the car (guy stopped after he saw I was seated in the driver's seat). Aside from the touristy stuff like the cable cars, wharf, restaurants, and club/bar scene, locals generally avoid the area. For tourists, though, I imagine that it can easily take up two to three days of things to do. Beyond that, it's much better to rent a car and drive outside the city to Marin county or down south along the peninsula to Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz or, heck, even Berkeley. |

The suburbs are boring as shit. They are the wasteland.
Marin is awfully nice though. And MM, I've never seen them because I've never been to the park there. My friend lives 2 blocks up and I'm coming from the north so I've never seen them still. |

It was midday! That was the best part. Guy just came up to my back passenger side door and started playing around with it while I was putting away my food on
the floor of the passenger seat. Didn't even think to try the front doors or look through the non-tinted windows to see if there was anyone inside. I
started up the car and he just jumped and ran.

I love how mugsies starts with "we dont want you here" and ends up writing me an essay <3
The only thing thats really set is the 5 days in SF, cuz we booked the flight from SF to Vegas. I know 4 days in Vegas is long, but we were thinking of maybe doing a Rocky Mountain tour type thing? We're probably gonna rent a car in Vegas and drive to LA, so we can leave whenever we want. I'm also aware of LA's lack of tourist attractions but that city has just always fascinated me for some reason. Also, we wanna go to Universal Studios and I'd like to go to a Conan taping. I figured with a car we could drive out to anywhere around LA as well. |

It wasn't as though I was going to prevent you from coming here.
And I actually think LA has MORE to do in terms of touristy stuff. Sure it's more the garden variety tourist stuff, like theme parks and that sort, but there are some unique things that are in LA that you won't find anywhere else. I actually think LA is more tourist friendly, not to mention more wallet friendly, than SF or the Bay Area in general. You won't see many locals riding a cable car, for instance, considering it costs $5 one-way for trips you can make on foot in thrice the amount of time, plus the added benefit of cardio walking up and down Russian Hill. If you're that into it, just go buy Time Out's guidebooks on all three cities. My LV one was great (as well as my Rome and Paris books), and I imagine that their reccomendations for SF and LA would be perfectly fine. |

I'm hearing that Las Vegas is a really sad place to be now with the recession--no crowds and everything shows up in its full tawdry desperation. The main
strip has all the extravagant casinos built by Steve Wynn where you can see the fountains and the pirate fight and the shows and the expensive shops (and all
the stalled construction), but I like the old Fremont Street area for a taste of the early 1960s rat pack flavor--the Golden Nugget and the "neon
museum"--and the "Indian" jewelry shops and wedding chapels.
