They didn't give Kathy Dan on purpose I bet - HGTV avoids the word "gay" like young starlets avoid panties, and you know if Kathy had Dan she'd be calling him her gay every other second. And we don't know how open Dan is about being gay - if he's like half in the closet (one of those gays that just "doesn't talk about it") - he would've been super uncomfortable being around her. Of course for me, that's all the more reason Kathy should've had Dan.

Do agree with whomever above that said they could have seen Antonio fitting in on a Monster House. I liked that show, but sadly did not even notice that it was off the air.

I just saw the one where he redid a bedroom for two guys. They feature gay guys aplenty, heck half their designers are gay guys. But listen carefully to how often anyone ever says the word "gay". They don't! And even though women designers may talk about who they may find cute or whatever freely, you will hardly ever (maybe never) hear a gay guy on HGTV talk about anyone he finds cute. Don't get me wrong - I give this channel kudos for often featuring gay couples on their shows and letting gay guys act as gay as they want (as long as they don't talk about their gayness). But basically, this channel operates under their own version of "Don't ask, don't tell" - their version is "Almost all the guys on this channel are gay, but don't worry none of them will ever discuss it or allude to their sexuality at all". I'm not up in arms about it or anything, I'm just pointing out a fact. I think it has as much to do with keeping clueless fraus' hopes up that a cute guy on HGTV might be straight and interested in them as it is about any type of possible conservatism.

They are also very concerned about their image. The channel was founded in redneck-ville, as well. From what I hear, though David Bromstad and now Danny Wanny go shirtless, they are very strict against ANY skin showing on their females; and they do not allow overtly gay words to be used (though as noted, they do show diverse couples and guests, who never SAY anything overtly "diverse."

It may have been "partners" but I don't recall. Never gay or lesbian, that I do remember and I was unsure for a few minutes if they were really lesbians or just friends because of the way they were talking about them. So strange.

I was at an HGTV sponsored party once. Bromstad was there and he got trashed in a very short time. He kept hitting on some guys, they ushered him out pretty quickly saying he had to catch a flight once they realized what was going on.

Yeah, I just don't get the judges' Lonnie Love - the woman looks beat to hell, drained of any energy and exhausted to me. Washed out. Boring. I wanna give her a cheeseburger and a multi-vitamin. The judges sure do love her walls, though. Yup, she does walls real well. Chevron walls. Home plate walls and LIVING walls! Nope, no One Trick Wonder there, folks. Walls of Wonder would be the name of her show? Eeeesh. Whatever. "A living wall! Great idea!!" Oy. That landscaping was pretty much pedestrian as it gets. Tall in the back, then medium, then short, then ground cover! Who knew!? Dan was just a damn bimbo. Almost 1/2 the budget on a WHITE vinyl structure plopped in front of that kickass water feature and then they place the setee in the pergola with its BACK to the water feature. WTF?????? And a big old YES to whomever here mentioned about tearing up the brick paver pool deck. AAAAHHHH!!! Leave it and pour COLORED cement around it in order to expand the pool deck. Woulda saved you money and added another color/texture. But, alls good 'cuz Dan got to take his shirt off for all that brick removal. Torrie, Torrie, Torrie. I want to be Team Leader because I choose the plantings for spec homes. Uh huh. And then she lets Lonnie take charge of all the plantings because "Lonnie knows more about that than me." Huh? Her voice on her hosting shoots could grind metal and I have absolutely no idea what she was trying to do at the end of her spot; what she said made no sense whatsoever, so the only thing I can think of is that she was trying to provide a cleavage shot? Okay, Antonio is a Tattouche. But I like him. Liked him since the first show and I'd watch the asshole's show, just to see him be a pushy, sarcastic asshole. It'd be a shot of personality in the tepid field of HGTV shows . . . . . Oh, and yes, yes, yes, YES to all who mentioned the safety fence around the pool and serious lack thereof in the completed "design." They are owned by Scripps Networks. HQ'd in Knoxville, right near the U of Tenn. Sure, it's the south, but it's a college town which always tend to be relatively liberal. Scripps was a client of mine and we did a project with HGTV and from what I saw at their offices, the place was a-buzzin' with ghey folk. My wife watches all those shows on HGTV and I think there is no shortage of gheys on the network - a good percentage of the designers and many shows feature 'partners' - just had a rerun of House Hunters International in Stockholm and the two chicks were Lebanese (code word for lesbian) :) I'll prolly get flamed for this, but gheys make up what 2-5% of the overall populace depending in who is citing stats? I think it's just a matter of playing the larger percentage and purposely trying NOT to be offensive. HGTV has much bigger problems to worry about. They used to have good shows where you learned shit. They took the Bob Vila thing and ran with it. It was great about 8-10 years ago. Now it's just a bunch of 'super rad, super hip' loudmouth hosts on shitty house flipping and/or real estate shows. I feel sorry for the gardeners because outside of a couple of shows on Sunday morning, ain't shit on there about gardening.

It's all the same basic show with different names and random hosts, although I do love Amy Matthews. She is the standout host on that network.
