So it didn't bother me that much with the Queen. It seemed a choice to make her bored and priveleged, and she pulled it off reasonably well. I do not get the ERW hatred any more than I get the "Michelle Forbes deserves an Emmy" mantra. This is NOT high brow stuff, folks.

Her performance didn't make me angry or anything, I just felt kinda meh. I wanted to be drawn in, I really did, it just didn't happen. I LOVED her sun room <3

So high brow was the wrong choice; but you all will likely crucify me for what I meant to say: IT is not high quality. It is not the kind of show I think of for awards. It is fun, entertaining, etc; but it is NOT something I would see being noticeable enough for awards.

It's not like the producers are going to read this thread and decide to cancel the show because it's not up to our standards. I like The Queen but the acting was shitty. I can live with it.

The acting ranges from bad to fairly good, but never amazing. The writing is uneven, rarely wonderful. The directing is almost schizophrenic, with characters making huge shifts and back again from show to show. It is entertainment TV, not quality TV imo, and should be nowehere near the Emmys.

I've seen her in a couple of movies and she was much better. Spoiler [+] fwiw, I read an interview with Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette) the other day, and in it he said he was fairly sure he'd be back for season 3.

Sophie Ann said maenads usually prefer supes with beating hearts, but that they were always trying to perfect and change the recipe, which pretty much implied that vampire's weren't completely off limits.

I don't know the actress from any other role nor do I care how the queen was characterized. The acting itself was painful and amateurish eta: I love the show for whatever it is and wasn't looking for great acting, but that doesn't mean I can't notice or comment on bad acting. I spent the first half of Season 1 trying to decide if it was actually good or, rather, so-bad-that-it's-good. ERW was hardly phenomenal, here, but she's a much better actress, even in this role, than Ryan Kwanten as Jason or Rutina Wesley as Tara. Hell, Chris Bauer (Andy) who has always been a really good actor, seems to be getting worse and worse each week. I find the show addictive and I love it. However, I feel the same about Pringles, but that doesn't mean that they are a high-quality food product...

No wonder they decided to keep the character alive.
