I love Ellen, but I don't see the incentive in it for her; American Idol really does seem beneath her. To me, now that I've thought about it, I think that there is something more going on here behind the scenes that we don't know yet... She is very successful, but I doubt she can make the easy millions that AI can afford to pay her year after year. Plus, she is clearly a big fan of the show. Plus it now gives her show exclusive first interview rights to booted contestants, etc.

I like Ellen but the only thing she's contributing to this is jokes that going by her appearance on SYTYCD, will get old pretty fast. On the plus side, she might actually bring more coherence to her comments than Paula ever did. I guess she'll be there to be nice to the contestants and that's about it.

I liked to tune in to see who she was going to fuck, who she was going to out as the finalist, who was going to make her mascara run as the confetti fell all the while looking stunning in her heavy eye-lidded stupor. You just can't buy that kinda crazy. Why couldn't they hire the last living Gabor sister? The show needed someone unpredictable. Sorry but Ellen ain't it.

Randy and Kara have credentials out the wazoo yet have always sucked ass. I would have been very much against them adding Ellen as a new judge LAST season. As far as I'm concerned a huge chunk of what made this show what it was died when they fucked with the judging lineup by adding Karcunt, so the sanctity or whateverthefuck is long gone. They can mess with it however they want at this point.

Because its not going to be that way. As fans of this show we will say "oh that person sucked tonight" or "dang they did really good." Ellen isnt going to say that she is going to tell everyone that they did really good even if they did really bad. The auditions will be tell all for her on this show, if she can tell someone NO, or that they werent good, then I will be satisfied, but she will probably just try to crack jokes or be too nice.

I think Ellen is delightful in general and she will always be both funny and sober. Unfortunately, she doesn't know anything about music; however, since music knowledge does not make Randy a good judge, this may not be as bad a thing as it seems. I think we've pretty much figured out that this show is only very minimally about musical talent. At least now we know how they are going to replace Paula's kindness and sunshine, and on that score, Ellen will solve a problem. Since she's easily twice as bright and coherent as Paula, I think she'll actually be a better judge than Paula was. However...they do NOT need four judges on that panel. Period. Paula did not need to be replaced at all. This is really making me appreciate Kara. At least Ellen will not be writing any coronation songs, or appearing in a bikini.
