He had some insight but I'm still not convinced it's enough to go more than MORP. Shannon - OTTP4 (?) - [1] Opening confessional: says that people have gravitated to her her entire life - [2] Explaining Shambo nickname - Selected as the smartest member on Galu; completes puzzle in Reward Challenge - [3] It was really cool to see Russell take charge, "Yay, we do have a leader" - [4] The men got hung up on exactly how the shelter should be done - [5] John is very much all talk and no business, all he's doing is running his mouth and he's too technical - [6] Didn't want to go in the water, this is not the Marine Corps and all these people are in their mid-20s, struggling with Russell as the leader, Russell is not leading, he needs to lay a can of whoop ass down * Quite possibly CPP due to her last two confessionals which showed some insight. I think the OTT might be more because of her huge personality so I need to review it a little more. I'm not seeing where she's M though… Yasmin - INV1 - Selected as the most agile member on Galu; completes balance beam leg in Reward Challenge - But, this is not enough for her to earn an UTR1 in a season of 20 players Potential Winners Detailed analysis coming soon! (Not in order yet) Betsy Russell S. (though his airtime was basically only because he was the chief) Mick (potentially the same as Russell S.) Shannon Jaison (probably needed a little bit more) Ashley Erik *** I'm even going to go against the grain and include Brett and Monica for now. Basically, Monica's confessional was out of place and didn't have to be included. They could have let anyone talk about the leadership thing, yet they gave it to Monica who was otherwise insignificant. Why give her this insight? Basically, the entire episode was about Russell H. and Marisa and the only Galu members who got airtime where Russell (the chief) and Shannon (the strongest personality and the second option for the chief). If someone like Monica or Brett won, they'd be irrelevant to the current Episode 1 story (which explains why they're not shown), but they still got an early confessional before the first commercial, which is important. Monica's was more significant than Brett's, since he basically just talked about Shannon. Just a little bit of thinking out loud. Full explanations to come tomorrow or Saturday. Evil Russell is the new Coach, and Mullet Marine is like the older lady who ate up so much of ep.1 last year. There are no golden boys - most guys are either young punks, or UTR. Older black lawyer didn't get much character development considering he seems cool and was the leader. No alliances shown on that tribe. Young black lawyer's big scene (aside from swimming) was getting his socks burned. If I hadn't read the bios preshow, I couldn't identity more than 6-8 people now. Off topic but this season did not scream entertaining at all to me, seems like a lot of assholes that have no charisma but than again when half the cast is ignored it might change down the line but its the gut reaction I GOT! Ashley: MOR2 Ashley was shown this episode in my opinion because she was a possible boot choice an it was almost a reality if Russell had not gone on his crusade again Marisa. She had some P an N moments during the episode but most of it occurred during TC she seemed smug an cocky an that canceled out the positive I had seen earlier. Ben: OTTN3 This guy will run his mouth an it will eventually cost him. His little jab before the immunity challenge was completely uncalled for an you can tell that this guy has no filter he will say what is on his mind without thinking of the consequences. Betsy:CP3 She is my top winner choice after the premiere, she had an opening confessional an she gave some insight on the whole Russell situation in which her assumptions are correct Russell is not to be trusted at all. Things can go two ways for Betsy, next week she is on the outs because she calls Russell out an he spearheads a campaign to get rid of her or she will weather the storm an eventually take Russell out. I feel like tonight seeds were planted for her story an it will eventually grow an flourish over the season an the pay off will be Betsy gets one over on Russell! Brett:MOR1 Had the first confessional of the season had some decent face time while at the Galu camp didn't really say a whole lot through the episode but I felt like the show wanted you to notice him throughout an I did! Dave:UTR1 Ok I mixed him up with some other dorky guy on Foa Foa <_< Elizabeth:MOR1 We got into her head a little on why Mick chose her for the brain portion an could tell from that she is a very strong personality an her delivery could possibly rub people the wrong way. Erik:MORP3 Erik was prevalent during both challenges his little line before the immunity challenge an his comments after the reward were both remembered an both of his comments were justifiable in my opinion. John was winded after probably a 5 minute swim after the first day an Ben running his mouth was uncalled for an he responded to both situations in a positive light. Jaison:MORP4 This was straight up reporting in my opinion he almost became the tribe leader, commented on the fact that he is actually a good swimmer an discusses his missing socks. Overall though he left a positive impression. John:OTTN4 Bad performance at the reward challenge combined with his running of the mouth during the completion of the shelter gives him this rating. Talked a lot but did not see him doing very much which was confirmed by Shambo! Kelly: INV Enough said. Laura: INV Look up. Marissa: CPP5 She had very good instincts about Russell the problem was she should not have verbalized them. We got some thoughts from her about Russell's Katrina story which she thought was for sympathy which was true. Called Russell out on playing way too hard, quick he got offended an flexed his muscles to get her booted. Had some moments during tribal council. It's a shame I think she could have been a good player she just needed to keep her anti-Russell thoughts to herself an not share them with him like Betsy! Mick:CP4 As an elected leader we got to hear his thoughts on this an even moreso when they reached camp an how he was more than happy to let Ben take the reigns while he enjoyed the perks. At least that is what I got out of it. Interesting that he voted for Ashley an we have no clue why, maybe he was left out of the loop but defintely not a good sign on top of the fact he is the 'leader'! Mike:MOR3 Heard from him first about his impression of Jaison an they were off but his major footage came in the PRE-TC sequence. He successfully moved the target onto Ashley however Russell's plan overruled his but at that point I think he was just glad it was not him. Monica:UTR1 Had a confessional during the leader selection. Natalie:UTR1 Spoke here an there left no impression. Russell H:OTTNN5 The star of the premiere it cannot be denied. He laid out his entire strategy to the audience we are in on the secret of his an he does not waste any time getting to work. Burning socks an dumping out water is extremely OTT but he also had some CP moments to be quite honest I can see a CPNN5 rating or OTTNN rating he is not acting like a menace for no reason their is a purpose behind it which he explained. He will be around for quite some time but he is not a winner. Russell S: CPP3 Russell was elected leader an had a good grasp of the pros an cons of being a leader but especially the cons. Shambo did not think he was doing a good job being assertive but when you are assertive you ruffle peoples feathers an this is Survivor have to stay on people's good side leader or NOT, I think he will have a good balance of being a leader but trying not to let it get to his head! Shambo:CPP4 I do not see Shambo as being OTT she has complexity to her personality this episode. She introduces herself an the fact that people are drawn to her. Than she almost becomes the tribe leader explains she is not the best at puzzles an they do go on to lose during the puzzle portion but no one seemed to mind at least were not shown. She commented on John's bossiness an the fact people need to be doing more an less talking. I think Shambo not becoming the leader was the best thing that could have happened. I think she could have rubbed people the wrong way completely, she dodged a bullet with that one. She will be in this game for the long haul an my 2nd winner choice. Yasmin:INV Remember her in heels an during the immunity challenge. Winner Choices: 1.Betsy 2.Shambo After this first episode these two ladies are the top contenders, Mick an both Russell's had very strong showings for different reasons. Mick an Russell S were elected leaders thus the need to shine some light on them Russell H is shaping up to be one of the biggest villains in Survivor History. Ashley was a potential boot choice, Mike started that train, Ben mouthed off a couple of times an Marissa was the first boot. Betsy an Shambo in my opinion were shown but did not need to be their has to be a reason for that. Perhaps they are not long for the game an leave soon or they go the distance. Now that that's out of the way...My first thoughts: Galu Brett: INV1 If I didn't remember his cute face from watching the intro videos I wouldn't have even known he was on the show. Dave: UTR2 Commented on John being a dumb-ass, noticed him around camp a bit Erik: MOR1 Carried giant bundles of wood, almost was leader, the end. John: OTTN3 Lots of negative SPV, presented as one-note, dumbass character Kelly: INV1 Who? Laura: INV1 Who? Monica: INV1 Who? Russell S: CPP4 Leader of Galu, got insight to how he was feeling about that, but I think of lot of his screen-time was just necessary bc of fact he was elected leader Shambo: CPP4 The only real character who's been developed on Galu so far. Her personality is certainly OTT, but her edit was CP to me - showed her analyzing multiple situations, and diferent layers of her personality Yasmin: UTR1 Participated in RC Foa Foa Ashley: MOR4 One of the dumb girls in an alliance with Russell H. Her comments at TC lifted her from UTR to MOR for me. Ben: MORN3 Self-proclaimed hillbilly, seems resentful he's not the leader, some insight, but not enough to be CP Betsy: CPP3 The only girl/person shown seeing through Russell's BS, but was smart enough not to run to step into the line of fire. Elizabeth: MORP2 Competed in RC, wants to overcome negative Asian stereotypes, admits Foa Foa is responsible for their IC loss Jaison: MORP2 Competed in RC, overcomes negative stereotype Marisa: CPM4 One of dumb girls in an alliance with Russell H. Doubts him (P) but then looks like a dumbass for the rest of the episode (N) - so Mixed tone for me Mick: CPP3 Leader of Foa Foa, positive SPV, lets Ben take more of a leadership role later to keep the eyes off of him Mike: MORN3 Shown being judgemental (black ppl can't swim), and trying to place blame for loss on 'luck' at TC Natalie: UTR1 - One of the dumb girls in an alliance with Russell H, doesn't seem to understand why Betsy wouldn't trust him Russell H: CPNN5 - Obviously an asshole, but he explains the rationale behind every move he makes. My top 5 picks for the winner: Betsy, Ben, Mick, Erik, Jaison

Just what is his "strategy" for dumping the water ? Just what is his "strategy" for burning socks ? To weaken his tribe for challenges ? To cause disruptions in any harmony thre tribe has ? To make it miserable for his tribe, just for the heck of it ? To ruin his tribemates Survivor experience, just for fun ? I'll tell you what ER's "strategy" is. It's not to win the game. He's already rich and doesn't need the money. It's not for the thrill of competition and the "chance of a lifetime". It's playing to the cameras. It's lying more than BB11's NataLie JUST FOR THE HELL OF IT. It's being a fuckin' asshole JUST BECAUSE. EVIL RUSSELL IS OTTNN. He is not CPNN. AND HE IS WORSE THAN COACH.

Unfortunately, we got the Sandy treatment in Episode 1 with Russell H getting all the airtime and everyone else getting ignored. JT, however, got a little segment about who he was--so the winner was there. I think right now the most significant edit went to Mick. One scene that I found particularly interesting was a clip of him "watching" during Russell H and Marisa's conversation. He didn't vote with his tribe but we didn't see that. He doesn't appear to be on the outs, but observant. Everyone praised his leadership abilities and he mentioned that he was a doctor and was able to parallel his profession to this situation he was in, and strategically placed the leadership role (which everyone was saying all episode was a death note) onto Ben. Remember when Todd did that to Aaron? Other interesting edit: Shambo. I wouldn't count her out just yet. I didn't like her getting so much airtime, but it was all about how she got her nickname, her leadership abilities, how she would be better than Russell S (and although he's a nice guy, I don't think he was P--Shambo's comments about him not doing a good job and them just hanging out in the water didn't bode well for the tribe). I don't think the winner will be from that tribe, and if it is, it should be Shambo. Don't confuse her OTT personality with her comments: they were fairly complex and developed her. I'll have to rewatch again to solidify that she wasn't OTT and was indeed CP. I really think she was P, because John got bad SPV and her raking on him wasn't enough to pull her to N and she definitely wasn't M. C'mon, you know the audience is supposed to love her. Other possibilities are Betsy, Russell S, and Erik, but all 3 have serious problems: Betsy's story is wrapped around Russell, Russell S got criticized as a leader and the leader role this episode was seen as dangerous, and Erik was ignored--maybe more of a Michelle Fiji episode 1? I have AT LEAST SIX INV ratings on my chart, and I only have about 8 or so people that weren't INV or UTR. I'll put my ratings in after a second viewing.

"If I can control how they feel I can control how they think". That isn't a very elaborate reason for dumping water out, making a bunch of alliances, burning socks, etc. It was all over emphasized. He did so much crap you don't even remember who he was: he just was stirring up trouble. When you get visibility like that, that's distracting. That's a villian. That's OTT. Coach's E1 was different: he gave reasons as to why Sierra was weak and why her efforts were maybe too late. He talked about his job and how it comes into this game. Then he turned into an OTT disaster, lol. Russell was just everywhere, in your face, over-playing. It wasn't a crafted, manipulated edit. It was just everything he did, they showed.
