The things that this guy is doing!" (I didn't read what you're reading into the "Outlast" omission. I think that would be too heavy-handed from the editors) I don't actually -think- he'll win, but I think given the edit there's the possibility he will win. Of course, I'm new to this stuff. I would have picked JT to win Tocantins....
What was with the camera zooming in on the words "Outwit" and "Outplay" on one of the tribe flags? It was when Russell was in full villain mode. I've never seen that before. But please note: the camera refrained from showing us "Outlast." That is a rather large clue that evil Russell doesn't "outlast."
Re: Betsy - agree that either she is the one who takes down Russell or is his last obstacle into the merge. I'm inclined to -guess- the former, but that's just speculation....
Re: Mick. Thought that scene of him watching Russell and Marisa was very interesting. It seemed so out of place, I even wondered - is this really happening simultaneously or just edited in to look that way? It looked completely out of place, bc Russell and Marisa seemed to be in some kind of clearing, and inserted just to say "Mick is observant."
I think maybe I'm unclear on the difference between CP and OTT as a newb. My understanding was OTT is a one-note edit, sort of a caricature - that can be bad (Coach in most of his episodes) or good (JT in a few as super-hero, when he wasn't being strategic). It always did seem to me that strategy, foresight and thoughtfulness were the things that distinguished CP - as well, maybe, as showing causality between the player's decisions and the things that happen in the game. That last one really distinguished Russell this episode. He made plans, carried them out, they had their desired effects, and then you have him commenting on those effects. It's not a petulant move, like Sandra throwing out the fish in Pearl Islands. Maybe the best comparison is between Jonny Fiarplay in PI w/ the grandmother lie. Was that OTT or CP? It was a calculated game move, maybe one that was transgressive, but one that worked.
