It's true, they painted her as oblivious (although I don't remember her coming out and saying she trusted him) by giving her the response to the dog story. But she also had the strength argument. When Mike originally said that Ashley was weak, they cut to her taking off her shirt, standing in a bikini looking quite fit. Then she defended herself from Betsy later. If she doesn't fall victim to RussH, or get caught up in his backlash, there wasn't anything else to suggest she goes home early.

If RussH had won, couldn't they have edited out the "dumb girl" part of his alliance making? That was the point, for me, where he really lost. I think they absolutely could have shown how he made a few separate alliances without ridiculing them as much as he did. I can't remember this far back, but didn't Brian do basically the same thing, without the over the top comments? Also, it was just hammered home so hard: the quick cuts from scene to scene, look how much of a slime ball this guy is, cut to him being smug and ridiculous, culminating in his approach to Betsy.
This scene also makes me believe that Ashley has no chance, and made me think that Marisa did. Because even though Marisa was a part of the dumb girl alliance she saw through Russel, and Ashley has complete trust in him. Obviously Marisa is out now, but I think Russel and Ashley can ALMOST be eliminated.
Editing to add: I just saw Jedijake's post saying basically the same thing I just said about Ashley. I also agree that we might have someone come in from the background of the major characters to win. While I was watching I couldn't identify an obvious front runner, and I'm left with the feeling of someone slipping through the cracks, or someone winning by default because they get to the end with someone hated. With so many people trying, oh so hard, to be obnoxious, that wouldn't surprise me in the least. And you're right, Ben could easily fit that description.
