So... I ended up watching part of the episode today...
The part where Oprah brought up Mick Jagger... So, Oprah mentions Jagger and Mackenzie Phillips seems to almost get excited about it and says... "Oooh, that's a fun story! Do you want to hear about that?" At which point she delves into the whole "I've wanted this since you were 10" story, recounting it like it was a fond memory and something to be proud of. I just loved how half way through the story she stopped to say what a nice guy Mick is and how it had NOTHING to do with pedophilia. Fucking Fuuuucked up shit dude... crack is whack. |

Weird thing is I'm sure I've heard and/or read about the Mick Jagger story before and she said she was 14 or 15. I've never heard anything about
her birth mother. She divorced John before he made it big w/ the Mamas & Papas, but I don't know if she's still alive or if she had any hand in
raising Mackenzie or her brother. It is interesting to me that Chynna believes her and Michelle does not. I don't know what to make of it. Phillips was
junkie scum, so it may have been true, but I agree with others that her timing is suspect.

i have heard her recount the jagger story several times and she is quite proud of it. whatev's. her mother is susan adams, john's first wife. his
autobiography, papa john is a white knuckle read. he admits he is a reprobate asshole and that he got high with his kids. i really do not believe mackenzie. he
was such a junkie, i cannot even imagine him being interested in sex, let alone incest.
she also visibly winced when oprah showed a photo of chynna and commented on how beautiful she is. |

And I have problems with anyone who tells stories when the other party is dead and can't respond. She just doesn't seem credible. The thing about Phillips that makes me think it's possible was his total approach to parenting, and life in general. By his own admission, he told his kids their were no rules, and she said that he had always told them that they could get away with things 'normal' people couldn't because of who they were. Also, that lying was always better than telling the truth. Even Mick Jagger was apparently appalled that Phillips did drugs in front of his kids. Let alone the fact that he introduced Mackenzie to the joys of mainlining. It was like parenting in bizarro world. But yeah, when you consider the amount of drugs he was on, his libido may have been completely sidelined. I know Keith Richards has talked about forgetting groupies once he discovered heroin. |

Well it is just a small part of her book that she talks about, among botched plastic surgery, etc. The entire Kathy book covers a lot of different things and
not this one thing. It may seem the same but it certainly doesn't seem anywhere near as exploitative as what MacKenzie is doing. Not to mention Kathy said
her family all knows what happened. It sounds like no one in MacKenzie's family knows if it's true or not, so the situations are very different. And
Kathy didn't fuck her brother.
