Okay. I finally have caught up with this thread. I'm bothered by this "get rid of the children's scenes" idea ...I would love a get rid of the children scene. I'd like to see Betty strap that shrieking brat into the backseat of a car and push it in a lake. Then she can be reunited with her precious Grampa. It would be very touching. |

The scene between Don and Peggy pushed me over the edge.

Man, what an episode. I know THE ECLIPSE/SUN was the prevailing motif, but I'd say a few people got knocked in the head figuratively.
Say what you will about Jon Hamm's appearance, but Dick Whitman is far UGLIER than Don Draper. And tonight was all about Dick Whitman being knocked in the back of the head by shady teenagers, knocked by hallucinations of his father, knocked by a FATAL ATTRACTION in the making schoolteacher, knocked by Roger inappropriately trying to get Betty to convince him to sign, knocked by Betty who certainly put him in his place with her valid question about the next 3 years and ultimately by Cooper, who FINALLY played the Dick Whitman card (like a sonofabitch too, might I add). Poor Peggy. She's had really bad timing so far in approaching Don after meetings that didn't work in his favor. Nice to see Pete actually look out for her. Duck and Peggy? lol, but yuck. |

Cooper had the line of the night that had me chuckling re: Connie Hilton. "Bit of an eccentric, isn't he?"
I actually didn't love this episode -little overdirected, slightly self indulgent. But Cooper getting Don to sign the contract was riveting and bringing back the explosive Pete/Don outting in the first season finale made up for everything. Loved Don getting knocked down a few pegs- it's the right time for this to happen. Betty's back in good form. Wouldn't change the character for anything, but was worried she was becoming stuck. Last season was such a fantastic slow burn that was impossible to look away from, but the first five episodes this season, I was the least interested in where she was going. I want the mundane life for her, but as long as it has underlining tension, I'm good. I know they can't shoot their load right away, but I need more Joan! *PS. I personally love the Sally character and am quite impressed with the actress -I think their hitting all the right notes with her. Not my favorite episode, but plot wise, it's got me hooked. |

PAPAYOKE wrote:My reaction exactly. No more, please. I also agree with the over-directed comment, although I'd blame the script. The flashforwards seemed gimmicky rather than adding anything. The small detail I noticed this time was how both Hilton and Cooper were sitting in Don's chair when Don walked into his office. Denied Don/Dick the power. |

Don's blow up with Peggy reminded me of his blow up with Pete after his father died. Just bad timing
You know that Don noticed Peggy was wearing the same clothes |

Great catch. When Don's in control, he sits in that chair much like his silhouette in the opening credits. Don and Peggy still grok each other in certain ways, but Peggy better hope that her little tryst with Duck never gets back to anyone else, especially Don (fat chance of that not happening though). I actually liked the little "flashforwards." Provided more tension to what was already an uncomfortable episode featuring Dick Whitman. |

Emerging 'Mad Men' character of the Week: Allison the secretary
Does Allison's "Bitch, please" face rival ice queen Betty's? Whoa. |

Peggy and Ducks?! Yikes.
Glad to see Don imperfect for once - yelling at Peggy (and rightfully so) and forced to sign on the line. I wonder if Don's out for that contract is going to be that he really isn't legally Don Draper. I'm in the camp of "less kids" myself - anything about Don's home life brings the show to a screeching halt for me. I just don't find Betty or the domestic drama that interesting.

The decorator mentions that the hearth is the heart of the home or something, and damn if Betty doesn't place her fainting couch smack dab in front of it making it about her. Very well played. I like the little girl. She subtly reminds me of Betty in mannerism and looks. |

I actually got a little turned on when Duck propositioned Peggy. You know when he was talking about having his way with her, she was thinking "OH GOD, YES
PLEASE!". I imagine Peggy finally got her pilot light lit. Good for her. And I can't help wondering how that will play out.

Anyone else find that the schoolteacher was full of herself more or less saying
"You "dads" are all alike. You want me soooo bad. I just have to keep chasing you all away." When SHE was the one calling DON on the phone for no reason. |
