One thing about Russell - as evil, smart, cunning, blah blah blah as he is, isn't he also perhaps the best narrator in the history of the game? To me, the poster child for narrators was Austin, but everything Russell says or observes seems to be bolstered by the edit. That is also excellent narration, aside from evil, smart, cunning....

Narrators don't win.

If the game ended after two episodes I would agree with you that Bad Russell doesn't have the right edit. Frankly, if this was even four or five episodes in then I would also agree with you. But we are only two episodes in and there is a lot of time for things to change.

Bad Russell is way to high on visibility right now and he clearly needs a cool down in the next couple of episodes if he is to have a shot. I will be particularly focused on the first episode where the other tribe goes to TC. But if you are an editor, what Russell parts would you have cut out so far? He is dumping canteens, burning socks, finding an idol and strategizing like a mad man. We are getting a fair amount of added narration from him but that is the only way to make him more CP and not just an OTT mad man.

Given the reality presented to the editors, I am not sure there is any other way he could have been edited if he was to win. Over the course of the game the editors will have a lot more choices and if Bad Russell is the winner he will start to come back to the center a bit. I think it is just too early to elimnate him.

This kind of reminds me of the Tom killing the shark episode. Many said that he was a huge distraction. But the guy killed a shark. You have to show it. I feel the same way about what we have seen from Russell so far.

I would contrast Bad Russsell to Ben. Both are clearly huge N & OTT characters. But the editors are straining to give us depth and reasoning to the Bad Russell character. They clearly aren't doing the same with Ben.

I also think that if Bad Russell was a clear distraction they could have made him much more OTT. Just cut out a lot of the naration and he thinking and you have an even better villain.

Just how much more OTT can you get than the OTTNN5 that ER deservedly received in Episode 1 ?
