You have Russhole gloating in every episode about those dumb women doing anything he wants. You have an edit that always props him up and makes the women look bad to try to pass him off as some star. The whole show leans in an anti-female direction. If Jeff goes along with that in his blog, it's going to be disgusting. It's also unfair to Natalie, as she has shown signs of not just being Russell's puppet. She told him she wasn't writing Ashley's name down. They couldn't show that, because we can't have any scenes where Russell is not droning about his awesomeness, but maybe Jeff felt chagrined enough to praise her in his blog.

But of course, Probst and the housewives, being as sexist as they can be, trash her and suck Jaison's dick. I get it was "stupid" of Yasmin, but it's also stupid of Jaison to increase the size of that target on his back.

I really think the foreshadowing points to Ashley, though. When Russell kept insisting last night that Ashley was going to form a girl power alliance and wipe out the men - and Jaison was saying naww, that would never happen - it seemed edited for the reunion show more than E3. This was the point where Russell proves he knew what was going to happen all along. He tried to stop it and Jaison wouldn't listen. Just watch: Ashley's going to get them both. RE contestants who don't try to win: If you remember, originally people came on Survivor for all kinds of reasons. To lose weight. To participate in a social experiment. To travel. Gretchen and Gabe weren't trying very hard to win but they made great characters because they had a clear perspective and they were emotionally open. Russell postures a bit much. But Ben is as real as they get. He doesn't have enough self control or perspective to manipulate his TV image. I believe he was exactly the same person on the show that he would be at home. Is he just waiting until she does a big move and then he'll start. Anyone else find it odd. Last season he mentioned most people and told us if they'd be big characters or not

It was twice as bad in Tocanshit, where BOTH tribes had all-male alliance, JT and Coach were promoted as good guys, and there was no positive female standing up to the men. At least Marisa and Betsy got positive edits, and Russ\Ben are clearly villians. And at least Evil Russ is willing to allign with girls, probably because he thinks they are more malleable. It\s sad that with guys like Russ and Ben running a tribe, women are like traditional wives in an abusive relationship. They have to put up with his controlling ways and bullshit because they need his strength in challenges. So strong-minded and outspoken girls are doomed, and the best strategy if for girls to swallow their pride and pretend to be a non-threatening puppet. I think Jeff praises Natalie, because that's the strategy that succeeds this season, though probably another girl wins.

The only reason Russell is willing to align with women is because he wants to control them. As soon as they step out of line, he gets furious. If they truly wanted to edit Russell as a villain, they would have aired the clip where he said he was going to "shut [Natalie's] butt up" after Ashley was voted out, because she told him she wasn't going to write Ashley's name down. Instead, they show nothing of the women, other than Russell's POV, which is that they're idiots. We saw Marisa and Betsy with more backbone, but they also paid a price. The editing for them carries a message -- Russell is right, the women are dumb and wrong. At least last season, Coach's behavior towards Candace and Sierra was generally depicted as being weird and stupid, and he was generally presented as a self-parody, not as being in the right.

Wannabe hero guys who form a boys club (JT, Coach) are more dangerous to women than controlling villians like Russell or Rob M who are destined to clash with other males.

Russ's speech about having to make sure the women are comfortable, the women (excepting Shambo) just gushing over the pillows and mat did not give you a good feel about the women over there realizing that this is going to get very tuough. I was ROFLMAO at Shambo's 90210 comment and them acting like they are at Club Med. And come on .... Yoga.

It seemed like elitism from Shambo, and more of her hypocrisy, since she is the one who broke fishing equipment because she lazed around in the water for hours. Surely that hurt camp productivity more than people doing yoga. Some of the people doing yoga seem to do a lot more work than she does in camp. She has a big chip on her shoulder. I know what the intention of the editors was but it was just the opposite for me.

Taj was a kick butt plus sized African-American heroine and JT was in fact a complete gentleman and an excellent player. Sierra did stand up to Coach and Erinn successfully beat him. Sierra and Erinn aren't my ideal female protagonists but it's a reality show and that's how the cookie crumbled. You can't demand real reality AND 19 seasons of dependably socially uplifting results. This season, the women on Galu are being thoroughly lazy. Monica and Kelly are pretty young, and frankly they're acting like it. I almost don't begrudge them that. They are what they are. Some of the women I like better - Marisa, Betsy - got voted out very early. I'm sure the producers are just as disappointed as anyone. If they had some great female protagonists to counter Russell they'd REALLY be dancing. As it happens, though, I am increasingly becoming convinced that some of the women do very well this season, specifically some combination of Shambo, Ashley, Monica, Laura and possibly Liz. Parvati played up to men, yet we still saw her point of view. We don't get that with most of these women. They could have shown the early confessionals of Ashley saying she wanted to make a female alliance, but they didn't. Instead we just get Russell H using this as scare tactics. Ashley herself is an afterthought.

They can't make her sound like a strategic mastermind because she's not and Galu hasn't even been to TC yet. But they can show her thought process and let her tell her story. I'm also convinced that Russell telegraphed a forthcoming women's alliance in his protests to Jaison, and the editing will show he saw the writing on the wall when none of the other men did.

Remember that Natalie of S16 was invisible for the whole first half of S16, but when she emerged, she emerged as a power player, and was the last "fan" standing. - Is Galu about to implode? Flashback to S5. Chuay Gahn booted Ghandia and then proceeded to thrive while Sook Jai then imploded. Is Foa Foa getting rid of Ben the equivalent? If not and Foa Foa goes to TC again, I think we'll see some sort of swap the next episode. The producers already did the Ulong thing. - JP has a mancrush on Jaison. The way he talks up Jaison leads me to wonder if Jaison goes far, but doesn't make it. Who would want to take Jaison into a final 2 situation anyway? - Does Shambo's mouth cause her downfall, like Alex telling Rob (S6) that he was going to be in 4th place?

He's also saying Natalie is playing a good game. THEN WHY NOT SHOW IT??? I think he's also avoiding writing about Ashley(who obviously goes far). Her edit is reminding me of Eliza O's in Vanuatu. Right off the bat you knew she was gonna be important to the season. So instead of drawing attention to Ashley, he hypes the invisible Natalie. But also hypes Jaison, and omits any mention of Mick, who probably goes farther (further?) than any of them, except Ashley... Also, the other weird thing is that ordinarily a MUCH losing tribe like FF is usually gonna be portrayed as the train wreck it is. BUT NOT THIS SEASON. Foa Foa is getting a winner's edit if you ask me. We're supposed to like them, to REALLY like them and to NOT like the selfish, complacent, self-assured, yoga-loving Galu. The bathing suit, er, bikini comments of that heretofore unknown girl ( I still don't know her name) made her look like a complete idiot. Not that that was hard to do. You're supposed to not like them, but like Shampoo. They are the cool kids, "90210", who Shampoo despises and who EPMB despises every season. Women do get a bad edit on Survivor and they all are, EXCEPT Ashley! They REALLY want us to like Ashley. Just based on what I've seen so far, I'd say she's gotten the winner's edit all along. But then she may have ELIZA'S edit, who's a great personality and very pretty, even when she's starving, and great TV. A great character a pretty girl who DOESN'T win. Which leads us back to Dr. Mick...Hmmm...

They have to make Galu look shallow to prop Shambo, since they have it in their heads that she's going to be a breakout character. Even then it's not much of an edit. Most viewers aren't going, "Galu sure is complacent and selfish!" They're going, "Galu who?" Who are we supposed to like on Foa Foa? Natalie is invisible in the episodes so far. Liz is now edited as a Russell sidekick. Ashley has a mixed edit, at best. We saw more of her telling Natalie she could have her sweater as a goodbye gift than of her saving herself. Mick is just sort of there. Jaison is already getting a negative edit starting next week. The main presence on the tribe is Russell H. The edit is all about him, how he is so bad-ass, how he controls all. There really is nothing else on that team. Everything is through his eyes. Foa Foa is by and large too boring to make into the worst tribe ever, and it has people the show likes. Remember La Mina? That tribe sucked, Terry ran them into the ground, but the show LOVED Terry, so they were not painted in a negative light. I would also guess we aren't getting a "worst tribe ever" edit because they probably start winning soon.

Posts: 1004 (10/03/09 3:44 AM) Registered User More Recent Posts	I mostly agree, Orangeena. I would describe Eliza and Ashley as both being "inherently likable underdogs not to be underestimated." But their edits are still a bit different in that Eliza's motor mouth was played for more comedy, and she was a little more OTT. I see Ashley as most analogous to Africa's Lil Bit Kim Powers. The sex appeal of the show who doubles as a likable darkhorse. I don't think she's gotten quite a winner's edit because we haven't seen her to be a good player. We're not inside her head. I see her finishing somewhere between 7th place and 2nd. I think Jeff's happy to tell us about Natalie because he wants us to appreciate her a little more for the next few episodes and feel more sympathy when she gets dropkicked. He wants to enhance the viewers experience. Give them a harmless "personal insight" with no spoiler value. He isn't talking about Ashley because he knows he'll have plenty of time later, and he wants viewers to be surprised when she goes far in the game. Remember, he's a producer now. If the "editors" (really the producers) want you to be surprised, so does he. As for the Foa Foa-Galu edit, look at it this way. If the biggest drama/personalities are on one tribe, they get extra time (see Drake in Pearl Islands). If one tribe goes to Tribal Council a lot early on, they get extra time (see Ulong in Palau). If the end game players come from one tribe, they get extra time (see Tagi in Borneo). I think the crazy thing here is that Foa Foa meets all of that criteria at once. The Galu's are less dramatic personalities and most of them finish somewhere in the middle. I guess you could say that they're most comparable to Chuay Gahn in Thailand with Shambo stealing Shii Ann's spot as the other tribe's one breakout character.
