I will definitely never forget the time they voted out Marcus. That was by far the biggest surprise I've had while watching Survivor in several YEARS. Before then, I was convinced the season was a little weak because Marcus surely had the win - and he was so fucking boring to watch. Then after Marcus was gone, the win seemed like a toss-up among Crystal, Kenny, and Matty. Not that any of them would have been textbook definition of "great" winners, but the suspense was cool. My aunts and uncles thought it would be Crystal (I overheard a conversation). Then suddenly, even Sugar seemed to have a chance. Bob and Susie coming out of nowhere to finish in the top 2 spots - come on, people. Lighten up. That was hilarious. 
I think some hardcore gamer/strategy analysts have a stick shoved so far up their asses that they can't appreciate the randomness of a season like Gabon. Sure, several (if not most) players definitely sucked in at least one area, and I hated Randy, G.C., Kenny, Charlie, and Corinne. But over time, I've come to appreciate seasons like this that can succeed in keeping me guessing, even if it means compromising logic, entertainment to some degree, and editing. Surely can't say the same about seasons dominated by bratty models in their 20's and California socialites. |

Gabon was just an example of people throwing their games away.
Marcus would have been an okay winner. Boring and predictable, but not bad. He completely screwed himself over by trying to ally with Crystal, though. Kota's plan was to eliminate her at the merge and Susie would have had no problem voting for her since she was next on the chopping block at original Fang anyway, where Susie was in the majority. Ken could have easily won and was in a good position, but he messed things up by voting for Matty at F7. If he thought Corinne and Bob were going to play an idol, why even vote for Matty? Their two votes would have done the trick and he wouldn't have burned that bridge. Then the whole passive-aggressive situation with Bob and the Immunity necklace just made him look awful and convinced Sugar that he was a "bad guy." And speaking of Sugar, she literally did throw away her game. She didn't have much of a chance with any combination from the F6 but she could have probably gotten a few votes with Susie and Crystal. |

It would have been a great season if Bob hadn't won (and he wouldn't if Sugar had just stuck to her original
plan and gone to the finals with Crystal and Ken). Even with Bob's win, it's still a good season. Two bad episodes don't ruin the whole thing for
me.

Gabon was great, because it had so many big characters, unlike the last 2 seasons where it's the Coach and Russel show. There was Randy, Crystal, Kenny,
Corinne and the most OTT villain of all time, Jacuiqe.
But the ending was just so bad. We were set up for an awesome blindside where Bob gives up immunity but then Sugar has her period on day 30 and decides to side with Bob and Matty. Everything from Ace's boot and beyond except the end was pure gold, seeing the Onions lose like that was great. Marcus especially, because he kept talking about how he brought honesty and integrity to the game when he lied to both Susie and Crystal in his boot episode. Still one of my favorite seasons, partly because I knew a ton about Kenny beforehand.

Maybe so. He kinda just got greedy for jury votes (that he would've had anyway in his desired F3 of Ken/Crystal/Sugar) and stuff. It's my understanding
that most people just think he and Crystal should've voted the same that round.
And, most people who play(ed) Melee/Brawl would know a bit about Ken beforehand anyway, lol. |
