They said they were Irish reporters or summat. When asked if they would like to play the Cash Cab, they refused and left the cab. How does that tie in with the producers hand picking the contestants? And why is it that when the music blares and the lights flash, the fares jump in surprise. I can't imagine there are that many people with the ability to feign surprise with such talent as to appear that they are actually surprised.

I figured there has to be some people that either 1) don't speak enough English 2) are in way too much of a rush or 3) are just not interested. I thought they would just not include them. Good to know, I'll have to look out for that episode.

He did quite well - didn't do the video bonus, though. Of course, he was taking the cab to South Street Seaport to meet some women.

If you've watched the end credits of the show closely, you've seen the line, "Some contestants have been pre-screened prior to their appearance on the show." This opens up a whole can of worms that leads to all kinds of rumors and assumptions. Some contestants are indeed random, and picked up off the streets of New York. Not all of these contestants make it on the show, even if they play a complete game, however. Keeping in mind that the goal of any television program is to entertain, there are bound to be some contestants that just don't deliver. Other contestants are indeed screened and/or recruited. There have been reports of a variety of different methods for this process - some people have said that they were approached on the street and asked if they'd be interested in appearing on a game show. Others have attended auditions and played mock trivia games. The key thing to understand though is that none of these contestants, pre-screened or otherwise, know that they are about to play Cash Cab. Those who have auditioned or been recruited are told that they have made the cut, and that a taxi is coming to pick them up and take them to the filming location. Of course, when that cab arrives, it's the Cash Cab.

Not mentioning the cash is paid by check with attached tax form ( I won Trivia Pursuit a decade ago)...who would want to be flashing a fistfull of cash late at night in some of NYC's shittier locales? Remove this ad Cash Cab Involved In Fatal Accident An unexpected and violent death is a horrible tragedy regardless of the circumstances, but when it happens in a supposedly safe and magical place, it's somehow even sadder. That's why Disney World deaths and roller coaster accidents always get so much press. Atrocities aren't meant to be witnessed by Mickey Mouse, and they're sure as shit not supposed to happen in the Cash Cab. On Friday, a producer of the Canadian version of Cash Cab was driving the taxi back to headquarters after production wrapped when he unexpectedly collided with an elderly pedestrian. The sixty-one year old victim was rushed to a local hospital and died a short time later. According to Entertainment Weekly, Vancouver police are currently in the midst of a full investigation into the matter. All parties are cooperating, but it's still unclear who exactly was liable for the accident. Cash Cab producers issued a statement saying: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his friends and his family. My heart also goes out to the driver of the vehicle, a member of our technical staff, who is shaken and devastated by this tragic accident, as is our entire team.” Of all the taxis to get struck by, the Cash Cab vehicle is undoubtedly the most bizarre. None of this is funny right now, but in five years, if there is a heaven, something tells me this poor victim will look down, shake his head and smile. What else can you do? Sometimes life just has a sick sense of humor.
