Apparently not only did they manage to get kicked out of a local movie theater, but according to Ryan's bass player, "several fine drinking establishments" too I also must add, Cookie fans are the best. I met so many cool people tonight. And a photo for old times sake (only my fellow Cookie Sucksters will understand |

Sux at life wrote:Glad you liked the concert, sux at life. If it's OK with you, can I send this report elsewhere for my "Word Nerd" friends to see. To answer your question, David, Ryan and all the guys talked about being kicked out of the aforementioned movie theatre on twitter the day before (yes, all members of Ryan's band and David's band except Kyle, are on twitter; if you want me to post their accounts, let me know; Ryan almost always responds to fans' tweets). Reason why? Apparently, Ryan (known for his...rather colorful vocabulary) was merely kicked out...for dropping the F bomb (thus falling victim to Virginia's anti-CURSING law). But...they seemed to have a fun time afterwards. As for your picture, it's not just the Sucksters who understand that picture. ;-p Some of my fellow Word Nerds (myself NOT included) refer to that as "the fanbase." |

cjester, feel free to post either my above thoughts or my "review" below (though I did tend to ramble a bit!)
My plans were to hit Gibson Grille (attached to the National) first, eat dinner in a nice setting, then use the early entrance line they have for the
concerts. Well, not quite. I get there at 5:30 and there is already a decent line waiting - outside (having never been there before I had assumed the
entrance was inside. I assumed wrong :-D). Plans change to get food to go then get in said line as soon as possible. Never thought I'd ever dine
alfresco on the sidewalk of 7th Street, but there you have it.
Saw my friend Lori (and her friend, who's name I never picked up.) so I actually had someone to hang out with. Plus we talked to quite a few of the people waiting in line. Not sure why, as I knew David had a very diverse fandom, but I was a bit amazed at the huge age difference of the people waiting. I was expecting to be amongst the oldest there, and while I perhaps was, there were a LOT more of us than I thought there would be. Anyway, time flew by fairly quickly and before I knew it we were being let inside. Concert was GA so we headed for the stage. We were somewhere around 3-4 rows in; pretty much front of the stage. Not bad at all. Again, we struck up conversations with those around us. Cookie fans rule! I'm going to jump to my thoughts about David first. From all the youtubes I'd seen from his shows plus comments from people on some of the msg boards I was expecting great things and he didn't disappoint. Great music, tight band, wonderful stage presence. (There is really no comparing this concert to the last one I went to - Jimmy Buffett - different music, different venue, different vibe. But the one thing I preferred about this show is that with it being a smaller, indoor setting with a fantastic sound system, was that it was much easier for me to hear all the between song chatter. And there is just something about an intimate setting). One of the things that made me "fall in love" with David on American Idol was how humble and down to earth he always seemed. And how great of a personality he possessed. How Simon could say he lacked charm, I'll never understand. But back to last night, all those things still hold true for David. He definitely knows how to work a crowd and fame hasn't seemed to change him a bit. His set list (about an hour and 15 min?) was mostly songs from his current album. We also got a "Hot For Teacher" cover, plus "We're Only Honest When We're Sleeping"" (pre-Idol). Highlights for me were "Lie", and a wonderful acoustic version of "Life on the Moon". I was a tad disappointed that he didn't do "Avalanche" (though I really didn't expect him to) or "Permanent". Our local paper today lamented on the fact that he didn't do any of the songs that he performed on American Idol. Personally I'm glad he didn't. Not that I don't think I would have enjoyed them. But to me, it's kind of like when he performed "The World I Know", and then got chastised by Simon for not doing one of the songs he had already done previously. David's response to him was something along the lines of thinking it was more important *for him* to do something he hadn't done; to evolve with his music rather than replay. That's kind of how I felt last night. Though AI definitely introduced him to an audience that might never have heard of him otherwise and you can tell that he definitely appreciates what the show did for him; the show definitely doesn't define him and his music. You also wouldn't know it from Ruggieri's review, but David had an opening act, Ryan Star. Whereas I went in expecting great things from David, I really didn't have high hopes for liking Ryan. Nothing against the guy at all; as a matter of fact I had barely ever heard of him and had never heard any of his music. It just usually takes me awhile to warm up to music I've never heard before. Usually but not last night. Ryan was fantastic! From his first song I really liked his voice and his music style (very similar to David's). He was also entertaining to listen to, and much like David, comes off as extremely humble and down to earth (though apparently he has a penchant for using the f-bomb & getting himself kicked out of local movie theaters <grin>). The guy just really, really impressed me. (ok, and he was hawt too!). He had cd's for sale so after the show my friends and I got copies and headed over to meet Ryan, who was doing autographs in a corner in the lobby. You could tell from the conversations that he was having with the fans that his humbleness isn't an act and that he is just a genuine sweetheart. When it was my turn to get my cd signed he took quite a while to chat with me and came across as being genuinely interested in what I had to say. I hope big things come for Ryan; he definitely deserves it. I was also able to snag a photo and talk with Ryan's base player for a bit. He seemed a bit goofy and I mean that in the nicest way possible - I love goofy guys :-) We then went and got in line to try and meet David but that wasn't meant to be as his throat was still bothering him & he thought that standing out in the cool air probably wasn't the smartest thing for him to do. Understandable. I did get a very brief glimpse of him as he got onto the tour bus; whoo hoo. For all I know he may have ended coming back out for a bit. They were locking the garage where a bunch of us were still parked so we had to leave and go rescue our cars. I came out on 8th St and had to circle back onto 7th to get to the highway and there were still people waiting out there when I drove by. Anyway, a totally terrific night out at the National. I look forward to seeing both Cookie and Ryan again in concert some time And my photos from last night. Hopefully they uploaded ok (last time I tried uploading photos from an indoor "venue" the photos came out looking horrible; though they looked ok from the originals). Also my laptop is a pain and you often can't tell the quality of photos that are online. So I have no idea what you all might see. I do know that the photos are a bit on the grainy side since flash wasn't allowed so I tried to make up for that using a ISO3200 setting http://public.fotki.com/SuZamboni/david-cook-and-ryan/ |

(thus falling victim to Virginia's anti-CURSING law).are you fucking kidding? (sorry had to do it! Sounds like you had a blast, sux. I'm already impatient for the guys to come back to Tulsa but I'm sure they would like some time off pretty soon. Seems like this tour has gone on forever. Plus didn't I hear something about work on a second album? *let's out a little squee* |

David's cougar has spoken
Kim Johnston speaks David Cook broke off his romance with his nine-years-older girlfriend after news broke that he had secretly been dating the beautiful model. Why? As the American Idol champ later texted Kim Johnston, "Dude, I'm losing fans over this!" David changed my life in so many good ways," Kim, 35, tells Star in an exclusive interview. "But I also can't forget my feeling of abandonment, when I was being slammed left and right. I've never had a man treat me as if he was ashamed to be associated with me!" Kim and David, 26, became friends through MySpace in August 2008. They soon met face to face at David's hotel in New York City - and Kim spent the night. "People will draw their own conclusions, so let them," she tells Star. The couple grew close over a year's time and saw each other as often as their busy schedules would allow. Their romance became public this past August after a New York newspaper ran an item about them. Shortly after, says Kim, "There was a big change in David's attitude!" And it wasn't long before he cut Kim loose in the face of his fans' apparent anger. "I know David is a good person," says Kim. "I hope he gets to the point where pleasing his fans doesn't affect his happiness!" |

I smell a golddigger. We can smell each other a mile away.
I don't think he left her for the fans, he left her cause she's a opportunistic skank and he's probably getting younger pussy now. I guess it's better for her to tell people it was because of the fans. |

she was a hump and dump basically. she met him on myspace, clearly fucked him the first night they met in person and then she's shocked when things
don't work out?

Obviously he realized girls named Kim are bad news.
In all seriousness though I can't really choose a side on this one. From her story it seems pretty douchey of him to dump her and just say he's losing fans over it. To me that doesn't sound like David but I don't know him in person so who knows, maybe he would do that. We haven't heard his side yet and never will if he decides he doesn't want to talk about it because he wants to keep his private life private, which is more than fair. Either way I'm not going to call her an opportunistic skank etc. I guess I don't see her in the same vein as Cuntwell. |

Surprisingly I was probably one of the least hateful towards Kim of the Cook fans, at least the ones here. Most of the regulars are gone now but I used to
defend Kim C and say we don't really know her. (Plus my actual bias was that Kim C was my fav on S2, embarrassing, I know.) You make a good point too about
selling her story etc. She just seems to have gotten so vain and cunty since S2.
This woman could be an opportunistic skank and maybe she is but hey, David could be a douchebag. I'd rather like to think he isn't and I do think that he isn't but hey, I don't know him or his side of the story. Dumping her b/c he's "losing fans" just sounds douchey. Hopefully there's more to the story and she is milking the fact that he may have said that (among other things) to get sympathy. In more important news and to answer Dic's question... Speculation is now that there will be a double release of "Declaration" and "Avalanche" as the last single releases off this album. Songwriting for the 2nd album is underway but we know there will be a break between the tour and recording and stuff for the 2nd album as Andy and Neal plan on doing some MWK shows in between. Personally I wish they'd release "Lie" instead of "Avalanche" for the slower song. "Declaration" is a solid choice but if I had my pick for an uptempo release I'd go with "A Daily Anthem" or "Breathe Tonight," but BT was a Walmart bonus track so that probably wouldn't happen. I'm just happy they're FINALLY releasing singles (if the speculation is true) that David had a hand in writing. "Light On" was a Chris Cornell track, "Come Back To Me" was written by Amund Bjorklund, Espen Lind (who I love) and Zac Maloy and "Bar-Ba-Sol" is a cover song or rather an unreleased track written by Dan Grady and Dan Dixon. David's name is officially part of the song writing credits for "Bar-Ba-Sol" but it was written by those guys in 2005 and he didn't work with them so I'm not sure if he changed up some of the lyrics or whatever but its still not really one of his own writing. This has pissed me off for so long and I would have been even more angry if they finished off the album and didn't release any singles David was involved in writing for the album. So I'm hoping this single release goes ahead to end off the debut album. Technically thought "Permanent" was a single too so I guess that is a David penned tracked, and more importantly one he wrote with his Idol Raine Maida and Chantal Kreviazuk, his wife which is cool. In other news I'm super excited for the tour. It's officially a month away. |

I'd be happy with either "Lie" or "Avalanche" as a single, I love both songs. I thought a long time ago they were going to release
"Declaration" which would also be a good choice as a single. "Light On" and "Come Back To Me" are all right, just not my
favorites. I'm glad to hear he may actually get a song out that he wrote. I think David's a great songwriter.
As for his cougar, I don't think much of her for selling her "story" to some rag. Maybe he did dump her b/c of his fans, who knows, I doubt we'll ever know his side of things b/c I think David is a gentleman who doesn't air his private laundry like that. Maybe she was a raging bitch and she's just saying shit about him as an excuse for him dumping her. Tabloids will print anything like it's gospel. However c.unty I think KC is I gotta give her props on keeping her relationship with Cookie private. |
