You'd think that Survivor would have tanked before its 19th season, but several of the past few seasons (China, Tocantins) were actually decent.

Her comment at the challenge wasn't rude...

And Galu shouldn't be painted as villians when they're clearly NOT. |

If a girl had said that (say, Erinn) she probably would have gotten OTTN and considered a jealous skank. I believe JT got a CPP that episode? People just look at women differently, it's sad that there's still that gender bias in today's society. The Club Med girls are being shown as lazy and nasty behind-Shambo's-back bitching. Natalie's edit is slightly refreshing. Her P seems real. I like that. It's a shame she's UTR.

Sierra got her rightful edit, she seems like a a pretty annoying person in general, though less delusional than Sugar.
I mean she was dating a member of the production team at the time, and they could have easily given her an overal morp edit. |

Uh Monica was a bitch this episode. No one needed to hug Shambo when she came back, but a nice "Welcome back" or "Yay Shambo is back" would
have sufficed. Everyone but Erik ignored her existence. Monica got the bitchy comment afterwards that was unnecessary.
I watched with my family, none of which read anything online about Survivor. They were all calling Monica a bitch about a millisecond after she said her comment. They also called Russell S a spineless bitch as soon as he sent Shambo to Foa Foa for losing one of THREE chickens. Monica/Russell S. are definitely negative for that last episode. Monica made unnecessary bitchy comments at the IC and bitched after TC about Shambo, and Russell came off as spineless for sending Shambo away and an idiot for the blankets over the tarp after all the rain. And Oo, Shambo's edit isn't manufactured. Galu doesn't like her, America loves her, and her edit isn't being sugar coated as her being a likeable underdog. She IS a likeable underdog because she is being treated like crap by her tribe. Yes she made two mistakes with losing a chicken and part of the snorkel, but she hasn't actually done damage to them by losing any challenges. Her edit is about her being mistreated by Galu and they are not forcing Monica or anyone else to say something nasty about Shambo for a soundbite. Just because an ugly woman is being made fun of by the pretty club med type girls, doesn't mean it's manufactured. Welcome to life, where the pretty get free passes and the ugly get treated like second class citizens. |

RobVanStratus wrote: I'm not sure about the Shambo stuff but I agree about Monica (and the Club Med Girls): of the little visibility they've been getting, it hasn't been good. The casual viewer is going to listen to the higher visibility people, and Erik, Shambo, and Russell S have all said that they're lazy/90210 (which is pretty plastic/fake) and are "on a vacation".. they aren't getting a SURVIVOR edit, they're getting a "should have gone to Mexico and gone on a different show" edit. Although of course this is exaggerating the edit a bit, Galu gets such little visibility thanks to a fat asshole back at Foa Foa that every little thing they show us should be viewed a lot bigger. I know lots of you love Monica, she seems cool, but the editors did not give her a neutral edit. They put that comment in there for a reason: bitch! There was a reason for that, and ILT I highly doubt the editors were trying to get the audience to say "She's absolutely right!" They were meant to think "She's just mad Shambo voted for her, how classless". Monica reiterated that because Shambo voted for her, she was going to get her back. There was no strategical reasons backing her saying that--it was shown to look personal. Not a very nice edit for Monica this week. |

EPISODE 5 PRELIMINARY RATINGS | ||
|
Survivor: Samoa - Episode 5 (Ratings Watchdog)
Here are my preliminary ratings for the episode:
Foa Foa Tribe
Ashley - MORN5 - [1] Excited about the Reward Challenge, experimental eater, try anything once, so hopefully I'll be one of the key people in this challenge - Lost the Reward Challenge for Foa Foa by not drinking the sea slug guts - [2] Very disappointed in myself, I tried but my body couldn't take it, put all the blame on myself - [3] Normally we all run around and scramble, you can't do much scrambling because everybody overhears - [4] Gonna vote for Liz, haven't had a trust with her since Day One, just don't trust her - [A] All so cold, clothes are drenched, At least there's going to be a fire - [B] Trust everyone to a certain extent, but my biggest trust lies with Russell; kinda had a different connection with him from the beginning
*** The N is for being called out for losing both challenges for Foa Foa (including Jeff saying she didn't make any shots at the IC)
Jaison - MOR4 - [1] Day 12, finally came off a win, seems like it's a bright day for Foa Foa - [2] Convinced we might be at a real serious disadvantage, shelter's got rain in it, it's absolute misery, nothing I want to do more than to get out here - [3] Have no idea what's going to happen with the vote - [A] Previously, the hardest thing I had ever done was on a water polo team - [B] Agree with Mick, we could be a stronger or weaker team
Liz - MORP4 - [1] I think Russell has the Immunity Idol, if not Ben, but probably Russell - Conversation with Russell about who will be the worst person in the food challenge - [2] Ashley should go, she's pretty weak in the challenges - [A] Trust pretty much everyone here, 3 losses has brought us together more than I expected it to - [B] Would be surprised if it was me, my gut would tell me
Mick - MOR3 - [1] Surprised, thought Ashley would be just fine in this challenge, have to suck it up, it's not gonna hurt you, it just tastes bad - [2] The guys are pretty tight, will send one of the girls home, will play it by ear - [A] All stuck under shelter, it's pretty tough to scramble, can't pull somebody out in the rain - [B] A little more organized, stronger at challenges, I think that will strengthen us
Natalie - MORP3 - [1] Ashley felt horrible after the challenge, but we're kindof like sisters, help each other through and feel better about it - [2] Don't know what the decision's gonna be, but I think it's gonna be one of the girls - [A] No way to try and scramble, the weather had a lot to do with it today
Russell H. - CPN5 - [1] Liz could be dangerous for me if she can manipulate others to go her way and not my way, this game is all about mind games & I gotta be the only mind game player here - [2] Shambo is still looking for the idol but she won't find it, it's in my pocket - [3] Liz gets it, why would she threaten me? - [4] Bums me out that I had to stop my strategy because of the rain; Liz asked me if I had the Immunity Idol, keeps telling me that you don't trust me; puts a target on her back but Liz is stronger than Ashley so I don't know which way I'm gonna go tonight - [A] Down to 5 people now, it depends on who you can trust; that's like gold in this game - [B] This group is just too tight, I don't really think it's up in the air
Galu Tribe
Brett - UTR1 - [1] Past 24 hours, haven't been thinking about the game, just focusing on being dry, really want to reclaim this and win the challenge
Dave - MORP4 - [1] Come back from our food challenge & everybody wanted to eat, Russell screwed up the fire - A minor conflict with Russell about the fire - [2] Sometimes patronize ppl without thinking about it - [3] Apparently no one knows how to make fire except me, actions speak louder than words so I don't need to say anything; if I'm the only guy who can make fire, it makes me pretty valuable
*** Leaning slightly towards OTT
Erik - UTR2 - [1] Ocean is a real bitch, it hits you with massive tides & waves, never seen an object that was as angry & fickle as this ocean
John - INV1 - Some SPV from Jeff for doing well at the Immunity Challenge
Kelly - UTR1 - [1] A lot of rain tonight, torrential downpour, freezing, a lot of our blankets are wet, regretting the decision
Laura - UTRN1 - Complains about Shambo at the beginning of the episode, which I felt was enough to put her on my radar as a N (the editing definitely supports Shambo here)
Monica - UTRN2 - [1] Tribal was really crazy, realize that Shambo was the only person here who voted against me - Bitchy reaction to Shambo returning at the Immunity Challenge
Russell S. - OTTN3 - Chooses Shambo to go back over to Foa Foa, she responds negatively - A minor conflict with Dave about starting the fire
Shannon - OTTM4 - [1] Just got back from our first TC, Yasmin got voted out, didn't expect it, little disparaged that everybody was in an alignment except for me - Minor dispute with Russell S. over going back to Foa Foa - [2] Pissed to go back to Foa Foa, missing out on the Reward & the protein that my body so badly needs - [3] Love these guys but I wanted that steak - Shared the hidden Immunity Idol clues with Foa Foa |

I really agree with a lot of your ratings GF, except I think Ashley may have been M (and OTT), Shambo may have been P (maybe even MOR, but doubtful), Mick may
have been UTR, and Laura may have been INV. I think all of your ratings are def. legit, especially so early on.

BlakeB717 wrote:Yeah, I wasn't sure on Ashley. I didn't see anything explicitly positive to balance out the negative SPV she got, except for maybe the scene with Natalie where Natalie said she's proud of her but I think that P reflected more on Natalie than Ashley. Ashley was pleasant and I definitely don't think of her in the typical sense of what N is, but I do think that was more the intent due to her challenge performances. Even Mick commented that Ashley should have done better and doesn't always carry her weight. Laura being INV is certainly a possibility. I just felt that I remembered her comments about Shambo so it was enough to register an UTR1. |

So Monica's early confessional targeting Shambiot is negative for Monica ? Really ? And after Shambiot voted against her at the TC ?
I can see there are gonna be A LOT of close calls on tone this week. The "debate" should be "eventful". Somebody please warn OTH. |

Did anyone else find some significance in Liz being worried about Ashley in the RC, then Russell talking to Jaison and Mick about it and they talk about how
she is "planting seeds" and being shady and then it turns out, LIZ WAS RIGHT. It was sort of a big foot in the mouth moment for Russ H. who, so far
this season, he's had none of because he's been "running this game" and such?
