"Just kill her off", "get her off my screen", "more of ___ and less Meredith" - well it is GREY's Anatomy so who really thought all that bitching would make a difference? I don't waste time hating on lead characters. We're gonna see them whether we want to or not. (LostJackKate.. around til the end like I always said! <3) |

Ran across these blog postings about Mark Salling/Puck (with inside info from his mom) today while catching up on local news....
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ LINK: http://www.advocatemag.co...s/blog/60670359.html?c=y LH's Mark Salling stars in Fox TV's Glee If you're not watching Fox's new show Glee, which airs Wednesday nights at 8 pm, you're missing a truly original creation - at times hilarious, at times shocking, but always entertaining and unique. The debut aired months ago and has been viewed all summer over the internet, with episode three airing tonight. And the best part is knowing that Mark Salling, who plays "the bad guy" Puck, grew up in Lake Highlands. Mark graduated from LHHS in 2001 and his parents, John and Condy, still live in the "L" Street area. Condy works at LHJH, where she still can't get used to people coming up and remarking on Mark's new show. "The whole idea of watching my child on TV is overwhelming," she told me. The show revolves around Mr. Schuester, an inspiring young teacher who takes over the school's past-its-prime Glee Club and invites kids from a variety of student groups to join. It's part Breakfast Club, part High School Musical, with the anticipation of Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland's "let's put on a show" and the breakthrough talent of Fame. And I get a tiny twinge of Rocky Horror Picture Show - campy and edgy, like maybe you shouldn't tell your mom you watch this. Mark's mom, on the other hand, is over-the-moon-proud of her son. "He always had a bent toward music - at four he begged for piano lessons." They made him wait until he was five. "As a kid, he was always 'out there' - articulate and expressive beyond his years. He loved to play dress up and put on a show. When he started writing music and taught himself to play guitar, we recognized his God-given gift." Condy's not wild about Puck's signature Mohawk, (she asked him not to wear it to a family wedding) but she realizes it demonstrated the 'sarcastic athlete' image he needed to get the part. In fact, when he sent in his head shot and music, auditions were already closed. His agent had to beg the casting crew to look at one more kid. Condy says she is "immensely proud" that Mark persevered through seven years of rejections in L.A. before reaching his goal. The show is a "perfect combo of his music and acting," and when he called to tell her he won the part, he was so excited he couldn't speak and scared her to death. Mark was amazed when the cast landed in Boston for a ten-city tour this summer and big crowds showed up. "The big news," she told me, "is that Fox announced on Monday that it ordered 9 more episodes, to complete a full season of 22." * Posted by Carol Toler on Sep 23, 2009 at 09:38 AM in Entertainment, Neighborhood, Toler, Advocate Mag, Lake Highlands ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ LINK: http://www.advocatemag.co...Rolling_Stone_buzz_.html Video: Glee, staring LH grad, gets Rolling Stone buzz This month's issue of Rolling Stone magazine (on the COVER no less) calls "Glee", a TV show about a high school choir that stars LHHS grad Mark Salling, 'awesomely gay' -that's gay in the way of Broadway musicals and Barbara Streisand (awesome indeed). Below, watch the sneak preview of Salling's solo performance - a rendition of Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline", which will no doubt be the highlight of this Wednesday's episode of "Glee", not to mention a You Tube hit and an iTunes big seller. Rolling Stone also included a web exclusive featuring cast interviews, in which Salling says he liked doing "Sweet Caroline" because it's one of his mom's favorites. (Mom, Condy Salling, by the way, works at Lake Highlands Junior High). I am rooting for this show partly because of it's LH connection (I spoke with Salling's father, John, a few months back and he is a down-to-earth, nice-as-can-be dude, and his mom, quoted here, is humble, and it just seems she gets it ) plus, as a closet show-tune lover myself, I think I just might clandestinely love "Glee" in all it's campy "Rocky Horror Picture Show"-esque gayness. * Posted by Christina Hughes Babb on Oct 20, 2009 at 08:53 AM in Advocate Mag, Lake Highlands |

yea I have/had some confusion on Mark Salling as well.. but I think he is gay. Damn... any chance he might be bi? LOL! Either way, I love him! So glad that
tested one more audition for the role of Puck. I cant imagine a better fit!
I'm so proud for his family. His Mom sounds like she is over the moon happy and proud of him. Awe at her being famous at her school ;) ETA: there was other things I read about him.. not sure where but not just the interview above. but its JMO. Not that it even matters.

Finn's latest FB post: Just tried to fart so hard I burst a blood vessel in my eye.
Sorry....my fav still is Phantom....still on Broadway, I've seen it 4 times and looking to go for number 5. Only show that makes me cry like a baby! How ultra-suave and sophisticated of you!!!! My favorite is Wicked. I live in the middle of nowhere so I don't get to see a whole lot of shows, but of the ones I have seen, Wicked was my fave by far. I would see it 100 times if I could. |

I did see Phantom over 300 times, as an usher. But my favorite is Grey Gardens. And Sunset Boulevard.
Rent...not at all. I get that at the time it resonated with the audience because it was very current but now it's a very dated piece of work, IMO. And I felt the movie was too little, too late as well. |

Oh, the movie was wayyyy past due. They all looked absurd except for the new cast additions like Tracie Thoms who was great.
I'm a weird snob/non hybrid when it comes to musicals. My favorite shows are Ragtime, The Last Five Years, Sweeney Todd, City of Angels, and Jesus Christ Superstar. I still love the stuff that got me into the genre, like Phantom and Les Mis and The Secret Garden. Not every show can be Sunday in the Park With George. Incidentally, I think the music and lyrics for Wicked are just as flawed as Rent's. :P |

Who is Mark Stallings?
My musical Broadway exposure goes from seeing cats like a million times. Then seeing it live. Then seeing The Loin King. I have also heard numerous soundtracks from Disney productions. And Avenue Q always cracks me up. |
