I love this show so much. The only show that has ever come close to replacing it in my heart was Veronica Mars.

Recently, I did a rewatch and discuss on LiveJournal with a bunch of writers. It was super interesting to see everyone's take. We decided that Hallie was much better for Graham than Patty, Patty always stifled Graham and held him back while Hallie allowed him to go after what he wanted. That kind of thing.

The re-watch was interesting to me too because I realized back in the day I never really paid attention to the adult storylines, they were just annoying things I had to wade through to get back to the teens. I discovered I still did that today. I love how this show makes you care about all the characters, even the ones who do bad things. No one is perfect in this show, even Angela slips up and you can't hate her for it, you can't even hate Rayanne when she sleeps with Jordan because in a sick way, she's trying to be Angela, to have what Angela has. It breaks my heart, but I also understand why she does what she does (and for that matter, I understand why Jordan does it too, particularly telling is the line, "Yeah, she's always saying innocent stuff like that.")

The hand holding at the end of Self-Esteem, it was so small, just a pair of intertwined hands, but it stood for SO MUCH and I just love how powerful that is. You don't get something like that on TV these days.

I also love Angela's voice (her written voice that Winnie Holzman created, like the lines she would say in her voice-overs, not her actual speaking voice). It's so raw and often subtle, but speaks so much. It's very literary, which you also don't see now-a-days in TV or in a lot of mainstream YA books.

I wish some of the other cast members had made it big, Rayanne was amazing and she only had a few failed shows after MSCL.

Oh God, I still miss this show so much!!!!
