I think the reason why many of them gain the weight back is because of how fast they lose it. The most common thing I hear in weight loss is to not lose too
much too quickly or else you gain it back and then some. Also the trainers and doctors that appear on this show should focus more on a healthy diet/lifestyle
as opposed to weight loss. People will respond better to that because a quick weight loss and then stunnign viewers with contestants who gained weight will
deterr people from wanting to change their ways.

I think that losing it quickly thing refers to people that go on starvation diets. The fatties are exercising and dieting which is the right thing to do. They
are losing quickly because they are doing it like it's their job, putting hours and hours in at the gym.

It's easy to lose weight when all you do is workout several hours a day, 7 days a week while on a monitored diet. I just don't see how participating in
this show for 6-9 months is going to reverse 20+ years of laziness and bad eating habits. I commend the very few who have figured it out and have successfully
kept the weight off, but for most part BL is the biggest weight loss scam on tv.

It's not a scam. If the fatties really want to keep the weight off they can do it like the majority of us do. By watching what we eat and by exercising.
Everything in moderation...duh.

does anyone remember the guy who refused to allow NBC to show his progress at home once he got booted? He basically gave up and said "fuck you" to
NBC. It was one of the earlier season I think - the one that Matt Hoover won I think.

(I have to admit it would have been great to do it in the span of 2 months like they do on TV.) I have kept it off for 3.5 years now. That's part of the reason I like to watch the show, even though it makes me queasy at times. |

I lost about 85-90 on my own much the same way as you but it took me almost 3 years. I ate a lot better food, but still allowed the occasional bad stuff to slip in. I started walking and eventually started jogging a little. Basically, I tried to implement changes in my life that I knew I could maintain for the long haul. I've kept it off for almost 2 years now and I absolutely make sure I fit in a workout every day. It's rare when I skip one. I'm even training for a half marathon right now and it's much more enjoyable than I thought it would be when I decided to do it. One of the most eye-opening things, for me at least, is that while it takes commitment, discipline and time to lose weight, it's really not that hard to do, especially if you're okay with a very gradual weight loss. (These last 10-15 pounds I'm trying to drop refuse to come off, however. Probably karma from my insistence on eating crap food during Biggest Loser, lol.) I think that's a major reason why I get really frustrated when the people on this show decide to become personal trainers and motivational speakers. They had the luxury of kick-ass trainers, an awesome gym, no work/school/family commitments, and a huge ass prize as an incentive. I want to hear from someone who did it through real world manageable levels of diet and exercise. |

Eh, they usually look great at the finale, but you can only lose so much weight in 8 months or whatever. I mean, Shay could make the finale and win and still
be pretty fat because she's just THAT fat. Same with Grimace last season. Most of them look amazing at the end though.

Extreme weight loss show in the works at ABCIf you think you've already seen the biggest losers, just wait. ABC is teaming with "Biggest Loser" executive producer J.D. Roth for a new show, tentatively titled "Obese," on which extremely overweight individuals shed hundreds of pounds over the course of a year. The network has taken the rare step of ordering an unscripted show direct to series a year before they'll see any footage. "We want to witness the most important year of a human being's life, and that's the one where they get their life back," Roth said. "We can help somebody lose 50 percent of their body fat, and you'll get to see that entire 365-day journey in one hour." Six one-hour episodes of the documentary-style series have been ordered from production company 3 Ball, which will assemble each person's story into a stand-alone episode. In each, a personal trainer (whose name has not yet been released) will work with individuals whose lives have become unmanageable because of their weight. Roth said the show will differ from other weight-loss reality shows, which have been led by Roth's own highly rated "Loser" franchise on NBC, a brand that just announced a spin-off starring trainer Jillian Michaels. "This is a unique story that hasn't been told yet," said Roth, who will serve as the ABC show's executive producer. "There's something great and transformative when you take the game element out of it and just focus on one man or woman over the course of a year and there's no prize at the end. The finish is their entry into the life they've always wanted." There's no host for "Obese"; instead, "each person becomes their own host." The series will likely hit the air in 2011. |
