the dino ciccarelli award goes to
star Alex Ovechkin was fined $2,500 for slew-footing in a game against the Atlanta Thrashers. Ovechkin was called for a tripping penalty against Atlanta's Rich Peverley in the final 30 seconds of Thursday night's game. According to ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun, Ovechkin was warned by league executive Colin Campbell on Friday that he will receive a harsher penalty if he repeats the infraction. Slew footing is when you take your skate and kick out the other skater's feet from behind.

Ovechkin drew a major for boarding and a game misconduct 3:38 into the third period when he ran Buffalo's Patrick Kaleta into the boards opposite the benches. It was the second career ejection for Ovechkin, and both have come against Buffalo at Verizon Center. Alex Ovechkin has been suspended for two games for his latest on-ice indiscretion. The NHL disciplined the Washington Capitals star Tuesday, a day after his knee-to-knee hit on Tim Gleason in a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. The league's reigning two-time MVP hurt his right knee in the collision. |

kane & toews are gonna sign 5 year extensions tomorrow. keith is going to sign a 13 year extension. $6.3 mil / year for the first two, $5.5 mil / year for keith (which, i mean, you think you could get a bit more of a discount at that length). i don't know what kind of cap magic they're using to make this work but whatever. hopefully they don't have to trade sharp (please die in a fire campbell. take one for the team.) |

I liked what Cherry said about Ovechkin tonight. Amazing to watch and he SHOULDN'T change his rough and tumble play but...he's gonna seriously injure
