It has been a long time since something moved me. I can remember getting choked up to The Execution of Private Slovik and A Man Without a Country back when I was an impressionable lad, but I've become a hardened cynic since with a heart of stone. Of course Brian's Song doesn't count because that was SPORTS!
Then last night I got verklempt. There was something in my eye dammit!
I was watching the 2nd episode of a 6-part BBC series called Tribal Wives. They take modern British women and drop them, with translator, in a primitive society for a month. In this show the woman had left her abusive husband a decade earlier and raised her daughters. In the Amazonian tribe, everyone is married in their early teens - arranged by the village elders. This one guy's wife left him years ago to live in the big city. He also raised his kids and now lives alone. When the brit arrived the whole tribe made fun and speculated how those two would get married. In fact, the guy really stepped up - Hunting and returning with monkeys and boars for the British woman to clean and cook. She grew to like and respect him.
At the end there is a big celebration for her departure the next day. Since it was decided that the two would get married, they put the guy in her hammock with her and did the wedding ceremony. The next day she was crying about leaving and the little dude was saying 'I will be alone in my hammock until you return'. C'mon, that's touching stuff!
What makes you cry:
Just Kissing?
2 Girls, 1 Cup?
Heartless bastages!!!
