How exactly does this legislation give gays the "same rights as the majority of the country"? The legislation adds sexual orientation to federal hate crimes legislation, which means that criminals can get increased jail time if their victim happens to be gay. The most intelligent comment in this thread comes from BEEFCAKE. Take note of that. OK, fine. Mr. President throws us a bone. Advisor: "Appease, appease, appease, Big B. You promised them shit and didn't deliver. It's almost Christmas and they're expecting at least a stocking stuffer." So when our gay loved one is beaten into a comatose hunk of hamburger, it's nice that at least the family gets to see the perpetrator subjected to an extra five years in prison. During this time he will work out daily, get stronger, and be able to actually KILL the next gay he pummels as soon as he is released. Baby steps, I guess. I guess we're supposed to be happy about this. Does this make the faggiest fags feel safe or something? Or cared for? Seriously... I want to know. Can you now go out in public and just queen out, all happy in the knowledge that Obama is going to take care of the guy who impales your asshole on a broomstick and then releases his steroid rage upon your sunken chest, punching your heart until it stops beating? Perhaps dress up for the celebrations tonight. I'd suggest you go as your favorite DIVA. "Here, faggot, faggot, faggot. Come on, boy. That's a good boy. A victim is a victim, you don't need to surround yourself of what race, color, creed , religion, lack of religion, sex, sexual orientation or other shit.
If your going to write a bill for equality write one for such. Do not make the same mistakes as attempting to make one group of people "stand out" or make special accommodations for the said group otherwise you are defeating the purpose of writing the bill. Victim is the word that should be universal and should be recognized as such. |

the biggest advantage of hate crimes bill is that is changes the public conciousness, on how it is not okay to discriminate based on sexual orientation.

I can see advantages to tracking hate crimes as a way to determine if programs to encourage inclusiveness are effective. Increasing penalties because of what
was in a criminal's mind disgusts me.
I wish Slip would come back for a minute. One time he almost had me convinced that hate crime penalties might be a good thing ... but now I can't remember his argument. I kind of feel that I should support this legislation and I want him to recap his argument. |
