Because a TRIPLE boot would have really screwed up their scheduling.

No, the schedule that says "a scheduled double boot was turned into a single evacuation, so let's switch the next episode from a single boot to the
still-required double boot".

Who says there is a nine member jury ?

They certainly did in Fiji.

Definitely had to be a last-minute thing. The two challenges tonight were clearly designed as tribal challenges so no way they had planned for a 12-person
merge--maybe 11 though.
I'm looking forward to it, but I think I'd be more excited in a season where I actually liked and/or cared about the cast. But either way, this season is in dire need of some variety so hopefully this does the job. |

No? Well it was one of the challenges featured in the TV Guide season preview. And guess what? It didn't make the pre-merge. My point? These people have more challenges ready than they wind up using. And they can throw challenges together at the last minute, such as the bocce balls, which required only some purple and yellow paint, and tonight's concentration challenge, which didn't even require paint. So the fact that they had tribal challenges ready for this episode? Fails to prove there was any last minute plan shuffling designed strictly to save Russell H. |

Yeah just like they "planned" the first ever tribal shuffle...and Africa is STILL considered one of the worst seasons.
They can pull different challenges out when they need them, sometimes, yes, to giev a certain tribe an edge. Foa Foa just sucks so it hardly mattered save the fact Production got their little Russell to merge. -SJ™ |

No, Russell was in danger of having nobody else to vote off. Please tell me you're actually watching this show and understand they have a PRODUCT to sell.

And when Russell gets over to the merged tribe, NO WAY he'll be the obvious first boot. In fact, he'll suddenly be at the bottom of everyone's
target list.
He'll be even safer than he was on Foa Foa.

I'm going to reverse myself a bit. I still don't think any of this has anything to do with Russell H, but I now believe that without Russell S'
evac, the merge probably would have been with the usual 10 castaways.
But I have to go into spoiler mode to discuss my reasoning. The unused TV Guide challenge also supports the idea that they merged earlier than they had been planning. They've done a 15-episode season before. It's not as if post-production costs are so huge that CBS would turn down an additional episode or so of their highest rated reality show. Even with the longer season, the critical merge episode still ends up on the first Thursday of Sweeps. Except instead of being with the usual 10 people, for the first time ever it's with 12. Blame the 12 people merge on Russell. Swan. |

Only problem that I see is this is going to be the longest fucking merge ever. At least seven more boots until the finale, and then that episode, more merge
episodes than ever before. Especially if the power doesn't shift up regularly (with Russell, it probably won't) this might become boring as fuck. Did
anyone consider that the TVGuide challenge, instead of being an un-used challenge, might happen in another episode or two if they pull a
Fiji-two-teams-one-tribe-one-goes-to-TC or if they actually split into tribes again at F10 for a round or two.

They play around with production all the time. Whether it's making a F2 in Micronesia due to James' evacuation, or delaying the merge in Gabon (which
I totally do not believe was planned, and was merely done to keep the Kota tribe from Pagonging Fang, which they were likely to do).
