I think Russell -is- the grand poobah of tone-givers, and possibly the poobah of poobahs. Basically everything he says is reliably shown to come true; he's portrayed as having almost mystic powers of gameplay.

I agree. Russel has been shown as the Great Manipulator. We're meant to be disgusted with his abusive comments that are played over shots of the FF characters who we've been prepped to view as nice, reasonable, yet clueless people.

We are meant to fear that he is actually the real deal. That he's always one step, if not a city block, ahead of everyone else and that all his pronouncements are true: that he's smarter and better than everyone else; that no one else is playing the game; that he can and is responsible for all the action, especially, the boots.

The edit has created a Goliath that deep down, every viewer thinks is a good chance of winning. That's why Natalie gets so much press time around here. She's the only one, so far, who's stated that she secretly knows Russel's game and is planning to use him instead. She's been the only person the voice her mistrust of Russel in private and then actively talk about her own plan.

For those who keep arguing for P tone crumbs for Galu members, the spin for all of Galu, since the first episode, has been negative. Yes, there have been individual variations, but all, including RusselS, have been tarred by the editors, using a very broad brush. (Or they've simply been neglected.)

Throughout the first half-season, we've been prepped to view Galu as somehow undeserving of their rewards and good fortune. At the same time, Foa Foa has been the tribe of nice, mature, thoughtful people, who have a monster in their midst.

The story has always been about Foa Foa and Shambo. We've spent our time tossing around just exactly what that means, but the intimation has always been and continues to be there.

Shambo isn't being edited as a winner, so that leaves someone on Foa Foa winning. Does anyone truly believe that a Galuian, with their every move having negative under and overtones from the edit, is going to win this thing?

Jeff tells Mick at the end of the IC that "It's not the necklace..." that is causing their losses. Is that a bad comment for Mick? I don't think so. At least nothing to make it some sort of deal-breaker. Foa Foa, despite all the losses, continues to be played up as the little tribe that won't give up. This is in stark contrast to the edit's sticking Ns on Galu at every opportunity.
