My thought on some of the really religious patients I've dealt with is that they don't really need to try as hard to following doctors orders since it's all in God's hands no need to exert themselves in the attempt to improve their health. I remember one that had plenty of energy to visit with her pastor and church buddies but would always plead exhaustion when the therapist came by for their exercises. And what the Stansel babies weigh is is the least of the concerns. The LDS people I around these parts don't celebrate Halloween because it's a celebration of evil and they tried to ban Halloween parties at my kids school. Their protest didn't work, their kids were sent to sit in the library while the other classmates had their party. I'm not sure I like the idea of that turkey hat. Is it saying the kid is a turkey and Amanda can't wait to get her home and straighten her out? Lovely blankets. Though they remind me a bit of those Gosselin parents in that they don't really seem to have made a plan on how the heck they planned to support their brood other then to depend on others to meet their financial needs. Even when or if those two girls make it home I can't imagine too many day cares would be able to meet their medical needs. And even if they get a private duty nurse due to their medical needs the nurse isn't a babysitter so Amanda and Tom can't just go off to work and expect the nurse to stand in place of a nanny or SAHM. Perhaps they can enlist Gram to come live with them to provide child care since she wants to snuggle and kiss them (or was she the one wanting to kiss Amanda?) |

Darn no edit function. I sort of changed my thoughts midstream in relation to the fact the Stansel girls have gotten close to what NICU considers a viable
weight. But they also are now able to regulate their body temp too so they have met two hurtles but they still seem pretty fragile. Plenty of full term infants
end up in NICU due to birth defects or injuries acquired during the birthing process.

for those of you who think they should of just let their baby die, what is the difference between them and someone else who had a micro preemie and they
didn't "pull the plug" on their babies. EVERYONE deserves a chance at life.

Canmom wants to be houstonguy's gram/erma. Run for your life, Houstonguy! I am glad to hear that your daughter is moving forward so well. :)
I'm guessing it was more the fact that they read it with a smarter brain. As for celebrating Halloween, it seems it's in vogue to diss it for some reason no matter what faith you are. When I was in Catholic school we didn't wear our costumes to school because it was a Pagan holiday. Nowadays we get a note from my son's Jewish preschool clearly stating that there was to be no clothing or costumes related to Halloween, because it is a Christian holiday. However, the Christian church down the street had an "end of October party" because Halloween is an evil holiday. How about if all these groups just lighten up and realize that it is a candy holiday, and Mama wants her peanut butter cups. |

Today was the girls first Halloween. No trick or treating and candy for them today,, but that is ok because their day will come for that. It won't be long until next Halloween rolls around, and they will be out with mommy and daddy enjoying all the good stuffs that comes along with it. We held both girls tonight, that was mommy and daddy's treat this Halloween. I held Rachel and Thomas held Haley. The girls for the most part seem to enjoy us holding them. We truly love these beautiful little girls. They just seem to have a way of lighting up the room with their purity and the closeness they are to our Savior. I know He is there with them, helping them through these challenging times. I can feel that as I am able to hold them. He does love them and He has blessed them so much. I am in awe with all that a kind loving Heaven Father has done for my little family. He continues to lift our spirits, in times of doubt and worry. We do not know the long term effects that come from being born so prematurely, we do not know how developmentally challenged our girls will be, but one thing I do know is that We will love and cherish every moment we have with our beautiful daughters. They are daughters of an all loving Heavenly Father and He has entrusted them to us, we will do all with in our power to raise them and to love them the way he has intended for us to. Thomas and I are so blessed to have Rachel and Haley in our lives, they are our everything.I knew that they would get some sort of "costume." Wonder if they wanted anything more elaborate and the nurses said no. The girls will still be too young next year during Halloween to really do any trick or treating. |
