There's that and the fact that two people I've talked to (who obviously didn't hear the introduction) didn't know that was the Glee cast performing and walked away to take a piss or something. What's with Sucks going batshit crazy over the lead characters being in the spotlight??? They are lead characters for a reason.

It was defintley good. I think Amber's voice got lost under the arrangement at points and fell behind on the song, but she did a fine job. I don't
think anyone here is saying it was bad, I'm certainly not.
I'm also not saying that other cast members shouldn't get their chance to shine. Personally though, I don't think this was the right setting for someone else to take center-stage. Not saying I am right or wrong on that, just my opinion. I think Lea would have done (much) better, but at the end of the day though, its the show who wins. More exposure to a National audience certainly can't hurt momentum. Good stuff.

Amber Riley has a higher range, or a better high range, I should say, than Lea Michele. The Star Spangled Banner isn't the easiest song to sing well and
those last high notes are harsh.
Personally I would rather have seen a group-oriented performance than a solo with some backup singers. The arrangement was very ho-hum. Not Amber's fault at all. |
