Former Fox News political analyst Angela McGlowan is launching her Mississippi congressional campaign with guns blazing, saying she has no plans to back down to Republican front-runner Alan Nunnelee.

“This is not a coronation,” McGlowan told POLITICO Wednesday. “People down here want a primary.”

Nunnelee, a state senator, has already been named to the National Republican Congressional Committee’s “Young Guns,” a challenger-development program. Nunnelee has raised $421,937 for the race and has $292,391 on hand.

McGlowan, who announced her candidacy Tuesday, said she is embarking on a five-day tour of the Oxford-based district and noted that she recently urged NRCC officials not to endorse in the race. Republicans are targeting the seat of Democratic Rep. Travis Childers, who is serving his first full term.

“The bottom line is this: I want the people of the 1st Congressional District to have a choice to decide who faces off against Travis Childers in the general election,” said McGlowan.

McGlowan, who recently left her position at Fox News to run for Congress, said her background as a TV personality was an asset in the race.

“It helps me with the conservative base,” said McGlowan. “But being associated with Fox News will not win me the election.”
