If Kelly really did win the first one and Richard lost, would it have had any impact on the seasons following. Of course Richard set the ball in motion, how would it change if a female won the first one?

One thing I thought of is that Richard wouldn't be seen as such a big mastermind, and regarded by a decent amount of people as the best winner ever. I
think that has a lot to do with him being first. He wasn't even the first person to think of an alliance. Stacey was, and Joel did it before they even
found out about Richard. I don't think it would change the phenomenon though. Kelly was really popular at the time, so I think a lot of people would be
happy with it.

The game would be drastically different. Likely more people would focus on challenges even more than before. Kelly was seen as only making it far due to
Immunity wins, so you might see more of a stress on it from players. Granted we see that a lot now, but that's because of all the mactors and recruits that
don't understand the mental game and only focus on challenge wins.
You'd see people like Colby and Ozzy winning final votes instead of the more strategic opponents they faced. We'd probably even see less female winners because the tribes would focus solely on challenge strength and people like Cirie would go first instead of social outcasts. |

Kelly was really popular at the time? Weird, I guess we're just rewriting history now. Or maybe I was just watching a different show.
Kelly was only popular in the sense that she wasn't Richard. |

I thought Kelly was a spaz and could not handle being a winner besides, I doubt the game would have any impact on any other seasons.

And this somehow makes her "very popular?" Saddam Hussein would have won a poll over Susan and Richard.
Survivor 1 popularity poll 1. Rudy . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2. Kelly . . . 3. Richard 4. Sue |

Didnt Rudy have like 70% of the total vote in that?

I don't think Rudy was that much ahead of Kelly. |

Okay, here were the results for Dingo and Shambo.

Everyone loved Rudy, people loved-to-hate Richard, didn't care that much about Kelly and genuinely hated Sue. People didn't fully appreciate
Richard's style until he won, and Richard's win did help propel Survivor into its successful second season. I think Australia is when Survivor became
the staple it is now. I don't think the show would have lasted this long without Richard, but since S2 winners have become less and less important to the
series.

I think it would have taken a little bit more time for the game to become strategic, but it would have happened anyway. Over time strategic players become more
and more appreciated.

I don't believe anything would change. The dramatic irony of a corporate man winning through sheer cunning would be lost, but alliance building is easily
the most efficient way of playing Survivor.

It's hard to really picture Survivor being as successful as it was without Richard Hatch.
Still, to make this work, you have to find the 4th vote for Kelly. Perhaps if one of Sean/Rudy/Gregg at the last moment changed his vote from Rich to Kelly entirely on the strength of Sue Hawk's RATS AND SNAKES speech. Kelly Claims Sean/Gregg didn't want a girl to win Take that for what it is worth, probably true if you ask me although in subsequent interviews, Kelly W did not seem a very bright girl and I might have a problem with someone like her winning over me. Then again, hatch is not too smart either. |
