Yeah I'm sure if guns were made illegal all the criminals would decide THAT would be the law they'd obeyBut that's not what is causing all your gun violence, the laws have very little to do with it. It's the fact that from the moment any child is taught the constitution, from a very young age they are told they have the right to bear arms. This simple line item is probably the single largest reason gun violence is so high in the US.
It's kind of like if your constitution said you had the right to smoke crack. Everyone would grow up thinking it's OK and thus you'd have a lot more crackheads. The level of gun violence should come as no surprise with this belief entrenched right in your constitution.
Personally I find that so whacked it's beyond comprehension. Sure gun control laws and gun registries, etc, do little to actually keep guns out of the hands of criminals, but as a general societal philosophy they do make a difference. As new generations grow up they are told these things are unacceptable. Over time this reduces the general percentage of those who would turn to violence. There will always be criminals and there will always be guns, but in a society where the majority of the general population believes guns are wrong, versus a society in which guns are touted as a basic right, the level of gun violence should be and is substantially lower.
Jus sayin'
